Aleks' POV

My eyes fluttered open to the morning light cascading off the bedroom wall. I stretched my arms out across the bed to only feel nothing but cold sheets of where Eddie use to sleep. Sighing sadly, I turned my head on the pillows to look at the lonely space. Today was the day that Eddie would decide which command he would be serving in. I would hope that he would become an officer instead of joining the survey corps. Just thinking about him being killed by 'them' would plunge me into deep depression.

Blinking back the tears, I crawled out of bed and headed towards the kitchen. I began to brew a cup of coffee, then I heard a knock at the door. I hurried over to see who was there. I opened it. I couldn't believe my eyes. It...It was...

"Hi, babe. I'm glad to see y-"

I cut Eddie's sentence as I pulled him into a tight hug.

"I missed you so much," I whispered into his chest, tears soaking his brown leather jacket as his strong arms wrapped around my frail body.

Eddie's POV

I stood there with Aleks still in my arms while lights sobs came from him. I never would have thought he would miss me so much. I had only been gone for three weeks. I hugged him closer to me, rubbing his back as an attempt to comfort him.

"Here, let's go inside," I said, kissing him softly on the top of his head.

We both walked into the living into the living room where we sat on the large sofa. The morning light was shining through the window, creating an uplifting atmosphere in the room. I think now is the right time to tell Aleks.

"Aleks, I have something to tell you," I mumbled, hoping he won't be upset about what I was going to tell him.

The young Russian looked up from where he had been staring at his pale hands with a remote expression. He looked confused and worried all at once. I took a deep breath, feeling nervous as to how Aleks would react.

"Aleks," I inhaled," I'm joining the Survey Corps."

"W-what," he stuttered,"why would you do such a thing?"

I could see that he was on the verge of tears again.

"Look, I know you're upset, but-"

"Do you even know what would happen if you stepped foot on the the battle field!?," he exclaimed, his voice mixed with anger and sadness.

We did. We both knew what would happen if I went out there. It was life or death. One wrong move and I'd end up dead. No longer will I be able to come home and see my Aleks. I wouldn't kiss him or feel his touch. But it was risking my life. I was willing to die to protect the kingdom, the people, and most of all...

Aleks.

~<~<The Following Month...>~>~

Aleks' POV

In the past month, Eddie had left to start his training somewhere beyond the outer walls. Soon enough, he would go into a classified mission. In the meantime, I can only hope that all of it will be over and I can see Eddie soon.

My pale finger tips traced along the sharp edges of the white envelope that rested in my lap. I had been staring at it with thoughts of what Eddie had written in the letter for the past twenty minutes. Taking a deep breath, I carefully opened the envelope containing precious words from my lover. Gently taking out the neatly folded paper, I unfolded it, reading the letter.
