The Balcony

Usually, i always sleep late. I would use my phone, chatting, watching movies until late at night. My family was asleep by then.

And its my habit to grab a bottle of water whenever i felt thirsty. Be it late at night, I don't care. I would move out from my bed and went to the kitchen.

I don't usually switch on the lights in the living room as there's refrigerator light. The light from the refrigerator would illuminate the kitchen, enough for me to see the bottle of ice cold water.

As i was drinking the water, i heard a 'click' sound, coming from the balcony. My balcony was connected to the living room, which was connected to the kitchen. There was no doors covering it, just open space.

There was nothing there, just darkness looming it.

Probably just in my head.

And then i heard it again.

This time was not a 'click' sound, it was a 'creak' sound. Curious, I slowly walked towards the balcony. The sound was getting louder this time, and more clearer. All i can see is nothing but darkness.

My hands were trembling as my head replayed various scenes from horror movies. The kind where the tension was building up and there were jumpscares. I was groping for the light switch, trying to switch on the balcony light. As i finally recognised the shape of it, quickly I turned on the light.

Nothing.

There was nothing.

Only piles of newspapers laying on chair, an empty chair and shoes scattered around here and there. Geez, mom probably gonna yell at us tomorrow morning.

About the 'creaking' sound, it was coming from the water valves, hidden behind the shoe racks. Guess, i watched too many horror movies.

Relieved, i turned and switched off the light, heading towards my bedroom.

...

...

...

Little did i know, there's a shadow of someone sitting on the empty chair, rocking back and fourth, watching me as i head towards my room.
