A couple walked through the streets of Camelot laughing and holding hands.

They were so happy

Guards began rushing about and the couple, who had been so happy a minute before, had the fear of death itself in their eyes.

The guards seized the man and headed towards the palace, leaving the woman wailing, trying to keep up with the guards fast pace, but failing miserably.

The guards took the man straight to the palace for a meeting with the King himself.

Uther rose from his thrown and began his speech, “Castor Smith you have been accused and guilty of the practice of magic. Do you agree to this?”

The man looked up and into Uther’s cold eyes, “Yes.”

“Then you will be executed by dawn tomorrow.”

A heart-breaking scream tore through the room as the woman who was supposingly his wife threw herself at his feet and pulled him close to her. Looking up to Uther with tears in her eyes she said softly, “Please, my lord there must something else. Please there must be another option—“

“There is no other option for those who practice magic. There will be no mercy for those who practice those dark arts.” Uther cut her off.

The woman cried into the man’s shoulder. The man looked up to Uther and said, “You will pay for this Uther Pendragon. You will pay for your cold heartedness, and for your ruthless killing. You only hate those with magic because you lost your dear wife because you used it. All because you wanted a son, just to continue your bloodline. You are one selfish son of a bitch.” The man then spat at Uther’s feet.

Uther was outraged, “Take this man to the dungeons, and his wife too. See that they are both burnt at the stake by dawn tomorrow!”

A gasp settled around the room as a certain physician sighed. Yet more lives lost to Uther’s endless hatred of magic. Is there any hope for his kind?

And at dawn the next day the couple were tied to the stake, allowed to hold hands to the end.

And a little girl watched from the shadows as her mommy and daddy were burned to death. She didn’t cover her ears to their screams, close her eyes to their torture, or cover her nose to hide the smell of burning flesh. She took it all in and her little fists quivered with rage. Indeed, this Uther Pendragon will pay.
