“Hello?”

“What a nice way to start talking to your favorite baby sister.”

“Sorry, you called as soon as I got back to my room.”

                “Score, perfect timing yet again!”

“How was school today, did you get to see Ami?

“Are you kidding me? I wouldn’t let a school day go by without seeing her. But to answer your first question, school went fine.”

“Don’t let your grades slip up this year. You are a junior now, you need to start picking yourself up.”

                “I know I know. I’ll try, I promise.”

“Good girl, how is Cherokee doing? I miss him so much.”

“He’s doing well. I still need to work him today. I can tell he misses you too, but him and Goose are getting along great.”

“Well that’s good. Hey kiddo I’ll let you go so I can study and all. Take care, love ya.”

                “Love you too, bye.”

I sneak out my window, onto the roof and jump down so that my mom doesn’t catch me. I get to the pasture and take out Cherokee for his daily working. It doesn’t take long to be in my own world again. The sound of hooves and the swish of his tail suck me in. I push him to go faster with the flick of my whip. After thirty minutes of work I decide it time to stop and call him to a halt.

We exit the round pen and I tie him up to brush him down. He stands perfectly still, enjoying every second of it.

“When your mom comes back we’ll have to go on a ride. Would you like that?”

He pushes his head into me showing that he misses her. I take him and put him back out with Goose. Taking a few minutes to say my helloes to my horse, Goose wraps his head around me. I let him go and went back to the house. Using the same way that I got out to get back in, I was safely back in my room with no evidence that I had ever left.

With perfect timing, I hear a loud slam on my door.

                “Open up now!”

Letting out a deep sigh, I pulled open my door.

                “It was unlocked you know.”

“Shut your mouth and start explaining.”

“Oh mother, I’m afraid I have no idea what you are talking about I’m terribly sorry for the inconvenience. And by the way, I can’t really explain anything if you tell me to shut my mouth.”

“I’m going to beat you to the moon and back if you don’t cut your crap.”

“I think that’s called child abuse.”

“What is your problem with me? What did I ever do to you?”

“Wow you have the nerve to ask me that, I should be the one asking you that. Ever since dad died you have been all over my case about everything and anything. I have don’t nothing but take orders from you while you beat me.”
