The media out there degrades our women
Until they degrade themselves
Until our daughters are begging for makeup Just so they feel "pretty enough"
Until 12 year olds are getting knocked up Because that's what they hear drake loves
Until our moms teach our kids this because That's how they grew up
Until we've got five year olds playing dress up because they want to be "good enough"
Pretending to be those girls
The ones rappers sing about
The ones in the magazines
The nurses everyone thinks are beautiful
The movie actresses the media loves
The comic heroes that are drawn busty because "that's prettier"
But that's not reality
Reality is none of that matters
Because in the end
Pretty doesn't matter
No girl is the "prettiest girl"
We are all beautiful
No matter what anyone says
We are all beautiful
What matters is how we fight this
How all these beautiful women fight
So that our daughters can feel just as pretty as they are
Without judgement from magazines, rappers, media, or these movies
So that our daughters can live in a world
Where they can make a bigger difference
And fight a bigger fight
Than the one we have to
The one where we have to defend our women
From these things
Instead of see love from them
And empowerment from them
All there is is hate
Towards anyone who isn't what the media calls beautiful
Why?
I refuse to let my daughter have to wonder this too.
I refuse to not do anything
I refuse to leave it so that my daughter has to see this too
I refuse to let my daughter live in a world Where she compares herself to the medias version of beautiful
Because we are all beautiful.
