Reign of the Reapers

Chapter 7

I was sitting in the dark for hours, until Gavin walked in with Vincent, Taryn, Alli, and 3 other people I hadn't seen before. "Well hello Phoenix." He said to me, I said nothing back. "Oh come on open up, I thought we were friends!"

"We're not 'friends', not even close." I spat at him.

"Aww...c'mon! We've been through so much together!"

I said nothing. "Fine. Why don't you just tell me where the safe haven is."

"No. I will never tell you-" he held a knife to my throat.

"Do want to do more of what we did yesterday?"

"No." I choked out as I tried to turn my head. He brought the knife away.

"I see, well, I have just the thing for you then." I swiped his hand at the people that followed him in, and Taryn along with someone else, came over and untied me. They led me over to a table, sat me down next to it, and tied me up again.

"What's this?" I asked confused.

"You'll see. Scott, come ere' Pull the screen of, ya' know, up." One of the boys that walked in with him, walked up to a large machine behind Gavin. He leaned down and quickly typed some things into a keyboard. A camera view showed up. Yuno.

"H- How did you get this?" I asked.

"We've been watching you Phoenix, courtesy of Scott here." The man who had brought the screen up, waved slightly, "We always were."

I watched the screen, it was silent but I could read lips. Yuno was freaking out, yelling at the group. You don't know Phoenix as much as I do! That's why you don't want to go out and look for her! You guys don't care what happens to her, you never have! She walked out and slammed the door behind her.

Yuno... What have I done to you. "You see. She can't contain herself, and you've seen what happens when she loses it. Back at the military base." My head shot up. They were watching us in the military base?!

"She wouldn't do that! She can stop herself!" Gavin chuckled.

"She's not strong enough to stop this. You did this to her, and soon, it'll be too late to save her, why not just save her while you can, before it's too late." He paused, "Phoenix where is the safe haven."

I had to tell him, I couldn't let Yuno snap again, after what happened at the base. If she did that again, there would be no going back. I am going to tell him.

I opened my mouth, but I was cut off by a siren. "Scoot! What's happening!" Scoot panickedly pressed buttons.

"It's the reapers." He said to Gavin. Gavin's eyes widened.

"How did they get in?" He said, "nevermind, it doesn't matter now, Dylan, Lisa, Blake, Vince, go fight them off. Alli, Taryn, Scoot come with me." Alli and Taryn came over and untied me.

"Come on Phoenix, we won't let you die! We need you!" Alli said as she led me down a hall. We got to a room, at the end of the hall, and we all went inside. I could hear gunshots outside.

"Well seems like plans have changed. You're off the hook for today Phoenix." Gavin said.

We sat in silence, if gunshots outside are silent, for about 30 minutes until, Vince, Dylan, and Lisa burst through the door. "They're gone." Vince said.

"Where's Blake?" Gavin asked.

"He got bit, we left him." I'm guessing Lisa said, "But it was Dylan's fault! He pushed him into the crowd to save himself!"

"Dylan... Blake was a great fighter, and you pushed him to his death?!"

"Uhh, yeah, it seemed like a good choice at the time..." Dylan said.

"Ugh you idiot!" Gavin yelled.

"Vince, bring him 'ere this is his third screw up already."

"No! No!" Blake said as Vince grabbed him.

"Dylan, to tell you the truth you were never important. You were just here as a body, and now that's what you'll be." Gavin thrust his knife into Dylan and he fell to the floor. He wiped the blood off his knife and handed it to Alli.

"You see Phoenix we lost a valuable fighter today, and a servant." Dylan was still on the floor, dying, "If you'd just tell us where the safe haven is none of this would have happened."

"Ugh, I'm done for today. Lisa, put her to sleep." Lisa walked up and injected a fluid into my neck, and as my eyes fell shut, I saw Gavin walk away with his back turned. Ta ta was the last thing I heard before I fell asleep.

"Phoenix, wake up." I heard. My eyes opened slowly. I expected to wake up and be in my room, instead Taryn's face was inches from mine.

"Wake up, we're going on a field trip." she said. I didn't really register what she was saying until she had untied me and we were walking out of the garage. We went through a door behind the truck and down several hallways. We passed by an office and saw Gavin sleeping on a mattress. It must be the middle of the night then.

We stopped in what had to have once been a break room. "Sit." she commanded and I half sat, half fell into one of the chairs. I had about a million questions for her. My heart raced. She, on the other hand, casually made a cup of tea.

"You want some?" She asked nonchalantly.

"Ummm...okay?" I said. She brought a cup over to me. Then she got her own and sat across from me.

"Why did you bring me here?" I asked.

"I figured you might want to get out of that garage for a bit. Stretch out your legs."

I didn't answer, then after a few seconds I asked, "Why have you guys been spying on us?" I was extremely frustrated that I'd been watched this whole time without my knowledge.

"It was Gavin. He wanted to make an attack plan on you guys. So he had Scott put up cameras around your motel in an effort to learn your weaknesses." she said.

"But then why did he end up kidnapping me?" I asked.

"Because you had information. But listen, you don't need to worry about that right now. What you need to worry about is planning your escape." she said urgently.

"Escape?" I questioned. "You're going to help me escape?" I wondered if she could be telling the truth. There was always the chance that this was a setup from Gavin.

"Look. I have been tormented by Gavin for far too long now. It's time to fight back."

"If you don't like it here then why haven't you left?" I asked.

"That's a story for another time." she said. I took a drink of my tea and thought for a moment.

"So what are we gonna do to escape?"

"Listen, I just need you to be ready to go at any time. No messing around. We're out of here as soon as I say so." she said. I nodded. I would be ready.

After that, we walked back to the garage. I sat in my chair with dread as she tied me up again. When she was done, she walked over towards the door to go back inside.

"Wait!" I shouted to her. She stopped and turned around. "Is Yuno okay?"

She sighed, "Let's get you back as soon as possible, okay?" I nodded. She left and I closed my eyes to go back to sleep.
