Ryan was waiting patiently in the living room of my apartment. Today is his last day in the US, and he said he has a surprise for me. He asked me to put on my best clothes, and so I did. I put a black dress glued under the knee with a high heel. I tied my hair in a messy ponytail and made a simple makeup with a red lipstick."Let's go?" I asked as I entered the room, holding my purse. "Wow," he exclaimed, smiling. "You look so beautiful! I certainly have the most beautiful girl in the world." He said giving me his hand. "Do not be so sweet." I replied, handing it over.Ryan asked me to drive my car to make it more romantic to get there, and I left. "So ... where are you taking me?" I asked as I looked through the window at the lights. In response he caressed my hand and then I felt the car slow down and stop in front of a beautiful restaurant that I did not even know the name of. It made me happy to know that Ryan spent his time looking for a nice restaurant to bring me down here in LA and make me that surprise. He stopped and went down, handing the key to the valet, then opened my door and asked for my hand.It was a very fancy and reserved restaurant. The people were well dressed and spoke low, laughing cordially with glasses of champagne in hand. I absolutely was not that kind of person. I was not poor, had a good job, a good apartment and a good car. But the people here had mansions and imported cars. Ryan was used to it. His parents were business owners in Australia and he has always been accustomed to this life. Not that I was not happy to be in such a place, but I'd be happier to be eating a hamburger."Name, please." An elegant young lady asked us at the entrance. "Ryan Ghasp." The girl checked a list and then smiled. "Follow me please.". We followed the girl through the enormous restaurant, to a table set aside in the background, near a fountain, with low light and ambient sound. I felt rich."I read that the best dish in the restaurant is this stuffed shrimp." Ryan said as he looked at the menu. "It could be one of these for me." I would choose anything he said would be good because I do not understand rich food. I watched as he called the waiter and made the orders. "And bring me your best champagne." he said. "Ryan, why are you spending so much money on this? You know I don't care." I said a little worried about the extravagance he was doing. "You don't like it?" He looked annoyed. "Of course I am, but why are you doing this?" "I just wanted to do something special for you." "Okay, okay, I'm sorry."The conversation flows as we eat. Ryan was telling me about his new job at his parents' company, and how great that would be for us. So in the future he could move his business to Los Angeles to spend more time together.Ryan was an incredible guy. I met him in South Africa while doing volunteer work as a photographer and journalist, which is what I am trained in. He was also there for volunteer work in the medical field. We spent four months there and fell in love. It was difficult when we had to separate ourselves into normal life, me in LA and him in Australia. But he came to see me the whole time, on holidays and vacations."So ... what do you want to do in the future?" He asked, "What do you mean?" I asked. "How, family ... Do you want to raise a family?" He seemed to want to say something more about it. "I do not know ... I think so ... I'm not sure about the kids." I said a little confused. "I want to have kids, but you know, time is running out, I'm getting old." He said taking a sip of the champagne. "Oh, my, you're only thirty-three, are you already thinking about children?" I asked a little worried about the way the conversation was leading. "You know, I'm at the right age. If I wait any longer, I'm too old for kids." He said quietly. "I'm getting on well with my career now, having kids would mess things up, I still have time, I only have 27.""I think it's time to get married." he said. "Maybe ..." I was getting nervous, and a small piece of me knew exactly what that was all about. I watched Ryan as he nervously reached into his pants pocket under the table. My heart began to beat desperately. That was really going to happen. Ryan then took a black velvet box out of his pocket and opened it. It had a wonderful ring that should have cost more than anything I have. "Cheryl Szymczak, will you marry me?"I felt as if my heart was coming out of my mouth, and a wave of heat invaded my body. I felt nervous. Part of me was desperate, and the other was delighted. It was all so perfect, that I would be a heartless whore if I don't, so I accepted. "Yes." I said. Ryan grinned so wide it felt like his mouth would rip, so he took the ring out of the box and placed it on my finger. It was the most beautiful ring I had ever seen in my life. "I love you so much.I'm so glad it's finally happening.I planned for this moment since the last time we met, that was when I was sure of what I wanted." He said ecstatically. "I do not know what to say! I'm very happy, Ryan, that was surprising, I'm sorry for filling you with questions about dinner." I said apologetically. "Do not worry, let's celebrate this with a dessert, right?" he asked. "Of course".I was eating my dessert and thinking how to tell this to my parents, and what would be their reaction. It would probably be great, they'll love to know that I'm marrying a rich man. But to tell you the truth, the fact that he's rich gives me a sense of responsibility. I do not know. My thoughts were interrupted when I heard a well-known voice, speak my name and approach. "Cheryl?" My whole body shivered. I turned my head to the side and saw him. My God, it was really him. "Brendon?" I asked. But I knew the answer. "Oh my God, Cheryl, I can not believe it's really you!" He was totally enthusiastic."My God, I do not know how to react, I'm very nervous, is it really you, do you remember my name?" I asked laughing. "How, in a million years, would I forget you, Cheryl? Can you give me a hug?" he asked. "Of course!". I got up and hugged him. His embrace touched my soul. "It's been so long. How many years we don't seen each other?" he asked. "Since you started getting famous." I replied with no grace. "I'm sorry for that. Who's the one with you?" He asked, shaking hands with Ryan. "Brendon, this is my boyf ...." "I'm Cheryl's fiancé." I looked grinning nervously at Brendon, who changed his super animated air to less excited. "Yeah, that just happened." I explained. He agreed. "So, are you going to be around here these days? We can go out, talk about the old days ... What do you think?" He asked cheering again. "I think it's great! Give me your phone." Brendon handed me the cell phone and I jotted down my phone. "Call me when you want to leave." I smiled. "Okay, so ... I need to go. Bye, Cheryl, bye, Ryan." He hugged me again. "Bye, Brendon."
