We all sat in silence. No one dared to talk, as no one knew what to say. No one wanted to say the wrong thing. Eric had gone and told my father, and he was now sitting in the living room with us. He still wouldn’t look at me. He was probably disgusted with me for being able to lie to him so easily.

“Is anyone going to call the police,” Traeh spoke up.

“What’s the point,” I asked. “No one can stop him. He doesn’t care or he gets away. Why involve more people?”

“You can’t think like that,” Eric said to me.

“It’s true and we all know it. Why bother hiding our feelings?”

Everyone looked at me like I was insane, even my father. I knew I looked and sounded very similar to a psychopath, but how did they expect me to act? I had just found out that a guy that really liked to beat on me was watching me. He was out there waiting for me. Was I supposed to be jumping for joy? No? I didn’t think so. I stared at the wall, my face giving off a blank stare.

“Dad,” Eric said knowing that would get my attention. “Case wasn’t the only one that knew about mom. Aiden and I both did too.”

“He’s lying,” I said a little too quickly.

“No, I’m not. We knew about it and we all agreed that we wouldn’t tell you. We didn’t want to hurt you, and mom promised she would stop, but keeping it from you just hurt us all. You and mom stayed away more, so she could keep you away from Case and you didn’t come back when we really needed you. It hurt us all, and you ignoring Case isn’t helping anyone.”

“Eric, leave it be,” I whispered. I didn’t want my dad madder at me because Eric was no longer playing nice with him.

“No,” my father spoke. “He’s right. I should’ve realized that you were only trying to protect me. I have to be the luckiest man alive if I have two… excuse me, three children that are willing to protect me. I was just too upset with the fact that my little girl could lie to me to see the obvious truth.”

“It wasn’t easy,” I said still staring at the wall. “You made it easy by never being around. I didn’t have to lie to you but once.”

“I know and I should’ve been here. I should’ve been the dad and noticed something was wrong with Joe, and have been here when you were hurt, but your mom kept making appointments even when I told her to stop, and she’d get really mad when I even considered skipping them to come home. Now I know why.”

“She needed you,” Eric whispered. “I needed you. You don’t realized how many times I’ve had to be the adult instead of the kid I actually am. When she cried out for her daddy, after Joe, she wasn’t crying out for me. It hurt to know that she still needed you instead of me when I was the only one there. I couldn’t give her you, and that’s what she needed. I couldn’t even get a hold of you when she needed you because you never left a number at the hotels.”
