Dovahkiin wakes up in the city of Riften and walks down to the entrance of the thieves guild. Mercer Frey is dead and the Dovahkiin is the new guild leader. He meets Karliah at the Twilight Sepulcher and they enter together. Karliah has disappeared and Dovahkiin is alone at the moment but he sees a figure in the dark and the figure walks up to him and asks him, "What are you doing here?" Dovahkiin asks the figure, "What is your name?" The figure says that his name is Gallus. Dovahkiin says aren't you the man Mercer Frey said that Karliah had killed you. Gallus says Mercer Frey was a liar but he was one of his best students. Gallus asks Dovahkiin, "why are you here?" Dovahkiin says that is here to return the Skeleton Key and bring peace to Nocturnal and the Thieves Guild.
