When we loaded into the decently dented police car, Christopher
driving, I was in the passenger seat, and Mack and Jeremy took eh back
seats. We were all silent. It was ridiculously awkward, so I attempted
conversation with Christopher."So...how long have you been a cop?" I tried him.
"Aheh, yesterday was my first day." He drove with one hand, and
rubbing the back of his neck nervously with the other."I'm sorry we dragged you into this." I still felt bad for the guy.
"I came on my own, I didn't just want to let you innocent...maybe not
completely innocent...people get into trouble." He smiled and out two
hands on the wheel."What made you want to help us in the first place?"
"They said you were dangerous, but in the car yesterday, when you
smiled at me, I just knew you weren't what they said. That they
twisted the truth to make you seem scary. But in reality, you're
already one of the kindest people I know.""Why thank you." Him saying that made me feel so much better about the
situation."I have one question for you."
"Yeah?" What could it be?
"Where are we heading."
"Oh, that would help wouldn't it." I thought for a few seconds, "My
house is safe now. We could go there. I have food and stuff, so we
wouldn't have to worry about that.""Just give me the directions."
"No problemo" I grinned.

We finally got to my house, where it had just occurred to me just how
far away the lab was. It took us hours to get back. It was mainly a
quiet ride other than the directions I gave Christopher, and our
stomachs rumbling. I was really hungry, and Chris probably was too.
We pulled into my not quite paved rock, driveway. Jeremy put himself
in charge of bringing me inside for some reason, by carrying me. Mack
grabbed my wheelchair. Inside, I rolled to my room just to think.
Who knew that the one day I took a different route home would be the
day that changed my life forever? I have a bipolar alien, a
malfunctioning robot, and a cop staying in my house because my mom was
a psychopath. This all sounded like a bad sci-fi movie. I wondered how
long it would've taken me to notice basement, if at all. Yet despite
all of the chaos I'd been thrown into, I wouldn't want it any other
way. The awful situations I was in couldn't compare to friends like
Jeremy, and Mack...and Christopher.I heard a knock on my door "Shelby?" It was Christopher.
"Come on in"
He opened the door, and looked around a bit before sitting down on my
bed across from me to talk again."So, are you okay? Whatever just happened back there was probably
really intense for someone like-" He sounded so concerned. We made him
lose his first and only job and he was concerned for my safety, well,
mental health apparently."I'm fine." I was answering honestly. Whatever caused my life to
become adventure filled like this, I loved it."Are you sure? Because I can-"
"I'm fine." I reassured him.
"Okay..." Chris shut up.
"So, uh, are you not at all afraid of Mack and Jeremy in the other
room?" I could sense a twinge of fear in him.He though for a few seconds, "I'm not sure. I mean, Jeremy has proved
that he doesn't really want to hurt anyone, even when he does. But
Mack...she scares me.""I'm a little wary of her too," I laughed. "I don't know if we should
leave those two alone together though-""Why?"
"You'll see"
We exited my room to see exactly what I thought. Mack was one again
trying to rip Jeremy's head clean off. She was snarling, hissing,
clawing, and thrashing at him. And Jeremy clearly didn't really think
of it as anything other than a minor annoyance. He was holding her
back though, letting her rip everything but his face. I guessed he
somehow out together that I wasn't going to be able to fix it again."Why in the world are they-" Christopher was astonished.
"For the first time, I'm just going to let them duel it out." And I
went over to the living room to relax, but still keep an eye on them
so it didn't go too far. "Maybe a movie would calm everyone down..." I
started to search my shelf. I was bored after all, a movie could do
some good.Christopher walked up behind me, "You have quite a collection." He admired.
"Well, I it's not like after school I go to sports or anything. I get
bored sometimes. You like anything? Maybe watching something would
make those two stop brawling in my dining room."He bent over to read the titles, "I'm surprised you have the Alien
series, that's my favorite horror film ever."I had to agree, the pure terror invoked by the alien itself was
fascinating. "What would Mack think of that?" I grinned."Only one way to find out." Chris seemed like he was beginning to get
more comfortable around us.
