A'siyaa's Story
Ten Years Ago…
Walking through the house, looking for my parents, I was so excited to tell them that I had won a full ride to three colleges already, and I was only in my junior year. I went in the kitchen, so that I could grab a donut and orange juice then i headed to my parent's office. Descending the basements steps, I could hear the music playing down below, so I knew that they were probably dancing and drinking on this Friday night. I Reached the bottom of the steps, And i look over seeing my brother Shawn just staring off into a blank space. I walked over to him and stopped dead in my tracks when I saw my mother and father in their own puddles of blood and the gun lying in my father’s hands. Rushing over to check on them, Shawn just sat there staring at them .
“Mommy, wake up! Please!” I screamed as I rocked her back and forth in my arms. Gently laying her down, I went over to my father and checked his pulse and saw that he too was dead. Running up the stairs and grabbing my purse off the counter where I had left it moments before, I placed a call to the police to hurry to my house because my parents were dead. Hanging up and rushing back down the stairs, I saw that Shawn was slowly starting to come around.
“Shawn what happened?” I asked him, shaking him from the rest of the shock. He looked up at me and pulled me to him. Breathing out a sigh of relief that he hadn’t gone into a deep shock, I finally let the realization of my parents being dead hit me. I broke down crying as Shawn tried to get me to stop.
Never had I witnessed Shawn to be so gentle towards me. He was much older, at twenty-two, and in the drug business but not my father’s drug business.
“Siyaa I don’t know what happened. I came over here because Pops asked me to come over because he wanted to talk about something, but I saw this. I don’t know what happened, baby girl,” he said as I felt the warm tears hit my cheeks.
They weren’t mine but instead they was Shawn tears. I cried in my brother’s arms for the rest of the night. The police tried to ask questions, but it was neither here nor there. There was nothing that neither I nor Shawn could answer for them. My parents were gone, and there was nothing I could do to bring them back .
