It had been a long time since Lana had gone out in public. A couple decades to be exact. It was just a perk of being a vampire... you had a lot of time in eternity to waste. So after the second world war had broken loose, she had tried to get involved while being inconspicuous and helping humans to decrease the casualties to the minimum. But it did no difference, they were even more bloodthirsty than her.

So Lana had given up once again to try good and retracted into her home in Italy, Rome to live in darkness much like the ridiculous lore of Dracula. She didn't exactly stay in all those decades, sometimes she left the company of her art or music or books to go out in to the world. Like in 1957 she went out to see Ernest Hemingway, which Lana was happy about now considering that he died in 1961. She had got to see him and meet him once before he died.

It wasn't like that with Charles Dickens though. Lana or as she was know by her full name by then as Lanakila. Her real name was an outdated latin name which meant 'victory' and because of that, she used just Lana in the present time. She had used many more names as well but there were so many that she couldn't remember them anymore.

She met Charles Dickens in Landport, Portsmouth, United Kingdom in 1820 when he was just a youngling at 8 years old. After his works got out, Lana wanted more than anything to go and to have a chat with him but it was just not possible. It was risky. She being a vampire and her black hair never getting grey strands in it or her green eyes never getting wrinkled at the corner may be noticed by Dickens even if he was 8 years old at the time. So she didn't risk it, no matter how much it pained her to miss the company of a brilliant mind. And she find comfort in his work even still.

Despite Lanakila's ideas on not seeing important people twice, she later on made this mistake with Van Gogh. She had fallen in love with his passionate work and his view of the world so profoundly that Lana couldn't simply stay away. But after awhile time passed and she didn't change and he started to ask questions. Questions she could not answer. The supernatural world had very strict policy on keeping their existence in the shadows, hidden from the prying eyes of the humans. So she left with a heavy heart. Everyone called Van Gogh crazy for his ideas and what he was talking about and this lead to him cutting is own ear and then a suicide later on at 1890. The news of death had hit Lana hard, for she had lost a dear friend.

His greatest work in her opinion and her favourite the Starry Night made her cry and reminisce about the friend she had lost every time she looked at the painting. That's why Lana had made up her mind about keeping a low profile for the sake of the people around her and herself. So she wouldn't have to go through this again.

While Lana was still in hiding after the World War 2 and had only came up for the occasion of Ernest Hemingway, she again left the comfort of her home to catch up with society. There was always lore going on about vampires and werewolves and other what not creatures but to see them as a subject to fantasy novels? That was something Lana could never understand about the 21st century. Twilight. The vampires 'sparkling' under sunlight. Now she would pay all her fortune to see that. This hype only made her lose her faith in humanity more.

Now she had run out of holes to hide in and darkness to embrace. She would go under daylight again. There was no such thing as sunlight turning vampires into ashes or religious grounds being off limit. And vampires didn't need an 'invitation' to get into someones home, still it didn't hurt to wait for that invitation to come in. Manners still mattered. wooden stake to the heart always worked like decapitation for her kind's death. It was like how it is for werewolves with wolfsbane and silver. Pour an acid on to her skin, she burned. She healed quickly but it still hurt. So every vicious method known for torture or intended for killing worked, the wodden stake and decapitation was just a more certain method.

Lana would know, she had her fair share of tortures in her time. With her life span, she had countless training, very wide and deep knowledge about martial arts and this had given her a famous rep of a great warrior in battles of history. Those times were covered in blood and gore. It also helped to have her blood source from already certain death of men in battle. And in some unfortunate turn of event she had ended up having enemies or being a war of prisoner and having tortured for information or just simple pleasure. When it was men, simple humans who had captured her instead of other supernatural creatures. They had had a hard time coping with her strength and keeping her down.

Also they were puzzled at the rate she had healed when they ran a blade down her back or slashed a whip. She would not like to admit that she may had some hand in starting the lore on the existence of vampires with her encounters with humans such as this. Nevertheless her strength or healing did not stop humans and they did what they want when they put their minds to it. And Lanakila admired that. Even if that determination made way to countless tortures and trials to see what made her weak and hurt her, she still gave humans credit. Eventually she escaped of course and killed every human on compound.

She wasn't proud of the killings she was responsible for or the blood on her hands but like she had said: with her life span, somethings are bound to be left behind or life loses its appeal. If every soul she has ever taken and it's guilt was weighing her down, she was sure that emotional burden would not let her take another step. It was better that she was no good at facing emotions after all these years. It made things simpler.

Though simple didn't always mean good and now, Lana craved something more intriguing. She wanted new knowledge to be searched and to indulge herself in. And that is why she left her home and dived into the chaos of society again.
