Two-Bit's Point of View
I woke up to someone's hand gently brushing my face.
I furrowed my eyebrows, groaning, shaking my head no lightly as I awoke.
My eyes fluttered open to see my mother's face hovering over me.
"M-M-M-Ma?" I groaned, slightly dazed as she brushed the side of my face softly with a finger.
"Shhhh, don't speak baby." My mother spoke, her green eyes filled with worry. "Jus' take it easy."
She spoke softly, her voice soothing and relaxing.
I frowned up at her, blinking away sleep.
Tears were silently falling down her cheeks.
I tensed, swallowing.
I hate it when my mother cries.
My mother is a young, beautiful, independent woman who happens to be very emotional. But it's not like you can blame her.
Not after everything she's been through.
What with being forced to raise two kids and work nonstop just to cover the house payments and having to cope with her husband who walked out on us.
It was very hard for my mother; she and my father had fallen in love in high school and were very close and my father being the first man she had ever loved, she was more than heartbroken when he left.
It used to confuse me a lot when I was little, about why she missed a man who got drunk all the time and would yell and beat us whenever he pleased, but now that i'm older and experienced love for myself, I guess I understand.
Not that that was love, I mean, but before he started to drink, when he was actually a kind, loving man; that was love.
And ever since then, my mother has been very emotional and everytime I see her cry, I just want to hold her and make things better, like telling a good joke or making her laugh.
But the atmosphere was very dry and I knew she wouldn't be laughing anytime soon.
I frowned, reaching up with my good hand to wipe her tears away.
"Don't cry, Ma."
She managed a small smile through her tear-streaked face, her eyes soft with worry.
I glanced around. "What are you doing here?" I asked, surprised to see I was still at the Curtis house.
"Why I came here to see you of course." My mother smiled weakly as she now rubbed the palm of my hand gently with a thumb.
I frowned up at her. "But what about work?"
"Oh, screw work." My mother shook her head lightly. "I wasn't going to go to work knowing my son is hurt."
I frowned, seeing the dark circles under her eyes.
Ma can't afford to miss another day of work. She shouldn't take off work for me. Our payment rates seem to get more and more expensive by the month and we can hardly pay for what we've got now......
"But Ma," I started, frowning, but she shushed me.
"It's alright, sweetie. Don't worry about it."
I sighed. "What time is it?" I asked groggily, looking around.
"Almost noon sweetheart."
Jeez! How long have I been asleep?! I must have look startled because she gave a small smile.
