(Previously)

A call interrupts our dinner and I stare down at my plate while she's on the phone. When the call ends she sits back down and stares at me.

"Savanna."

"Yea?" I look up at her while chewing on a piece of broccoli.

"Your dad called, he said they found her body."

I choke on my food when I realize what she said. They found her body.

-

They found her body.

"What did you say?" I ask her.

"T-they found her body, Savanna I'm so-"

My fork falls to the floor and I stare down in my lap letting the news sink in. Well fuck. Just as I thought I was having a good day something shitty has to happen. Great.

"I know you and your stepsister had a great connection and everything but-"

I abruptly stand up. I think I'm gonna have a meltdown.

"Mum! This is not okay! Desiree was the sister I never had! Don't you get it?! I can't just let this sink in and go on with my life...I.."

I'm at a loss of words. Desiree was my stepsister from my dad's side. She was the closest thing to a sister I had. Before she went missing life seemed less complicated. I actually liked my life before she went missing..

A small cough interrupts my scattered thoughts.

"I'm sorry," my mum spoke from the other side of the room.

When I don't answer I hear keys being snatched off the counter while I stare at the tiles on the floor. Before I look up I hear the front door slam and then silence. She left. I'm not sure when she's coming back either.

If Desiree never went missing none of this would have ever happened. The anger rises in me, I let out a shaky scream and throw my plate at the wall. The fine china shatters into small pieces on the floor. The noise is loud but I could care less. I take one last look at the disaster before heading upstairs. I'll clean it up later.

I grab my phone off the nightstand in my room and dial Audrey's number. After the fifth ring I decide to give up.

The energy from my body feels like it drained. I lay down on my bed with endless thoughts consuming my mind. I get a few texts from Zach and my mum but I ignore them. They wouldn't understand what I'm going through. I lost my stepsister, one of my best friends.

A tap on the window startles me and I sit up and stare out at the dark night. It takes me a few seconds to realize who's standing there, Marcus.
