C H A P T E R O N E

Tears blind me as I turn, running as quickly as my legs can carry me, bolting across the field like an Olympic champion at the start gun; quickening my pace to an all out sprint. The pounding noise of my bare feet resonating off the grass, hitting a piece of metal with a clanging echo that matched my heart throbbing inside my chest with the thick grief and fear I felt as I ran.

I didn't know who I was running from, or what I was running from but I felt fear overcome me. "Aris, where are you?" Calls a sickening voice, making me feel sick to my stomach. Keep on running, a familiar voice says in my head.

"Mom?" I ask, hoping to see a familiar face, but all I see is a bright blue dome, with an old man's face plastered on it.

"There you are," says the voice from before, and the man grins an evil yellow smile that sends shivers down my spine. His pixelated face made me feel scared, unsafe, and disgusted, "We've been looking for you," his smile seemed to go from ear to ear now, with drool dripping out of the corners, as if he was dying to eat me.

From behind me I hear fast, shallow breaths. I spin around and see six other men, all the same height and build, all the same terrifying faces as the first man. They grab me and I scream, though no one can hear me. I let out a cry for help, as they inject me with some type of serum. I scream in pain, and cry, hoping at least one person could hear me.

Sharp pain lanced through my head and colorful spots flashed in front of my eyes, it felt like my whole body had been beaten and every movement caused some muscle or bone to ache, "Dominic, isn't she supposed to pass out?" They injected me with another type of serum, and more pain was caused. I closed my eyes praying for the pain to stop.

"Is she one of them?" A deep voice questions, sounding like he was scared. Pretend to pass out, the same familiar voice says in my head. I look up and see a knife above my forehead, and I do what the voice told me.
