The fire that had lashed out onto Sanctuary burned brightly. Screams of agony and the clashing of swords echoed from the distance. I listened carefully to each individual scream, as if the tormented souls were seeking some comfort from those their voices had reached.
I continued to listen for a short while, but soon after they grew silent. All that was left was the soft crackle of burning wood and the subtle whistle of the blowing wind.
As I began to drift out into the abyss, a faint voice called out to me. It was like no other and it was one that I knew of. The voice of my love. She continued to call out for me. Her voice so soft, yet so clear that it felt as if she were beside me, whispering into my ear. I called out to her, but heard nothing more than my name. After a few minutes there was a stillness. The screams and fighting had gone quiet, even the voice of my love had been silenced. It can only mean one thing: That all of my friends, family and comrades had been killed. We had lost once again, to those who hunted us, the soldiers of The Infernal Legion. Soldiers so heartless, that women and small children were slaughtered for their own amusement.
I was not able to assist those who had looked to me for protection, because I laid paralyzed, restricted to do nothing more than stare at the smoke filled sky. A form of Hemlock poison coursed through my veins, which completely immobilized its victims, slowly dragging them into the hands of death. The soldier who shot the poisoned arrow, was more coward than a man, he used it at a means of avoiding my wrath. Though it was no use bothering with it now. The poison will soon affect my lungs and heart, which will be my end.
I closed my eyes, no longer able to bare the sight of the sky. It only brought despair and dreadful memories. As I sat alone in the darkness of my mind, many people who had lay within lost memories appeared before me. The faces of friends, family, and even a few enemies who earned a special place in my heart. Lastly, my love. Though I had many companions throughout the years, she was the only one I truly longed for. She lightened up dark days when no one else could. Sadly, a short while after we meet, something always prevented us from being truly together. This time The Infernal Legion stole her from me.
A sharp twinge pain crawled through my chest, as the memory of our final moments appeared to me. Sadly, it was the only memory that wasn't tainted by death or battle. We sat side by side on the beautiful white sands of our beach, watching the stars burn brightly throughout the night sky. The moon shown full that night, casting a light upon us. As we watched the sky above, she placed her hand on my own. The sudden touch from her soft and delicate hand, brought me to look towards her. My breath hitched and my heart seemed to almost stop.
Her silvery blond hair seemed to glow under the moon's gentle embrace. Casting a halo of light around her. Her pale skin and delicate features made her appear as a goddess of extraordinary beauty. She had the most mesmerizing eyes, those so blue and clear, it seemed you may have been peering into the ocean itself. If you stared into them for too long, you would have surely had gotten lost within them, and her smile. Yes, her perfect smile. It had always brought comfort to those around her.
I was brought back into reality as she looked away towards the ocean. The slight movement caused a few hairs to stray from her loose braid. I couldn't help myself but to place my hand under her chin and draw it close enough, where I can see every detail of her eyes. I used my other hand to move the stragglers back into place. Her cheek flushed slightly, as she gently pressed her cool lips against my own.
The next moment became a blur, as I am pulled back into the world of suffering. I opened my eyes and sighed. "So close to being free from this world, but some must see to the destruction of every being.'' A voice whispered into my ear, though it wasn't the one of my love. It was unfamiliar, raspy and haunting. I attempted to look the side to find the source of the voice, but there no one stood. Instead, the sound of approaching footsteps caught my ear. The sound of clanking metal were unmistakably familiar. Only soldiers of the Legion wore such armor in this time of age. Their armor covered their bodies from head to toe, the blackened steel seemed to reflect the darkness that poisoned their souls. This soldier was most likely aiming to end my life prematurely, impatient of the poison's effects.
As the soldier came into view, it became apparent to me that he was no regular soldier. His blazing red armor signified authority, an officer of high status . A deep rumbling chuckle slipped from the darkness of the officer's helmet. The man placed a heavy foot on the arrow in my gut, and slowly pressed onto it. Digging the arrow further into me . I clenched my teeth and stared back with cold eyes. Men similar to him, had brought the downfall of my home.
"Derec." The man hissed. "It has been ages since we last crossed paths. You have changed very little. Only your name, Derec, such a disgustingly dull name." The officer said intently, as he gathered his helmet in his hands and pulled it off.
The air seemed to escape my lungs the second the officer revealed his face. "Though I do despise you for ever existing, I had always preferred the name that was given to you at birth, Jove. Since it was I, who sired and named you." The man blustered. The tone of his voice proved how crazed my father had become since our last meeting.
He pulled his saber from its scabbard and brought it over his head for all to see. The blade glowed a bright crimson as it was brought down to my chest. He placed the blades tip directly over my heart and turned his head towards me. "Any last words before I send you back into the hellish abyss where once freed from, Jove.'' He said mockingly, knowing I couldn't utter not one word. The damning poison preventing it. Without another word, he plunged the blade into my chest with a great force.
I gasped as a great pain exploded through me. It felt as if I was set a flame and was now burning from the inside out. I swallowed back any screams that yearned for release and struggled as my vision had began to faltered. I watched my own father laugh as I slowly succumb to death. The breath left my burning lungs as my body began to completely shut down. The smoke filling sky of my home, the last memory that I shall remember from this life.
I am left in the darkness as the world around me finally gives out. Again, I am alone. To drift through the lonesome abyss for eternity.
Why must I always suffer such a gruesome fate?
.....................I sat up in bed gasping for breath, my chest burning with pain. My hand naturally shot up to place itself where the blade had entered my chest. "Just another nightmare." I whispered as I looked around my dark room.
