~Prologue~

"Tonight's the Night"

She looked at her reflection but didnt recognize the tear stained, puffy eyed girl that stared back at her. Purple-ish bags under her eyes were prevalent and the fact she'd been crying made it worse. She stood in front of the mirror on the back of her door and looked down her body. Every flaw, every mark, she hated it all. She ran her fingers over the scars that laced her arms, hips, and thighs, wishing they were open and bleeding. Then she shifted her eyes to her stomach.

Fat.

That's all she ever saw when she looked at herself, but tonight would be the last night that she would have to bare living in this unsightly body.

She walked over to her dresser, pulling open the bottom drawer and rummaging through its contents for a few seconds before pulling out a small ivory box. She removed the small lid and placed both objects on the surface of the desk, then picked up the delicate, slender piece of silver metal. She ran her finger over the painfully sharp edge and watched as droplets of crimson blood appeared on her fingertip. A smile pulled to her swollen face.

As if in slow motions he placed the metal object to her wrist and glided it across her vein, more drops of blood flowing from the newly opened cut. The pain that erupted brought a sense of serenity to her troubled mind, but quickly the words that taunted her flooded to her memory.

Fat.

Ugly.

Unwanted.

Waste of space.

These were the words her classmates used to describe her, they were the reason she hated herself so much. But words weren't their only offenses.

They'd push her.

Shove her.

Trip her.

Knock her books down.

Slam her locker in her face.

She didnt realize she was crying again until tears dripped into her hand. When she snapped out if the daze she was in she began angrily slashing at her wrists, thighs, hips, the blood flow increasing. The pain felt so good.

Suddenly she got up and ran into the bathroom attached to her room, throwing open the medicine cabinet and grabbing the unmarked bottle out, knocking the rest into the sink. With trembling hands she opened the white cap and peered down at the orange colored pills. She counted the quietly to herself.

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10.

That's enough to kill me, right?

Perfect.

Slowly she began walking back to her bed, her skin still dripping blood. She sat down at the very edge of the bed and stared at the pill in her hand. With one swift action she poured the capsules into her mouth, washing them down with water from the bottle she had in her dresser, and then layed in her back. She mindlessly stared at the glow in the dark stars she'd taped on her ceiling as a child. The room started spinning, the pills were taking effect, and all the light and sound began to fade.

Finally I'll be at peace.

Suddenly she hear her name being called. It sounded galaxies away, as if the noises weren't coming from her mother who was now standing above her. Everything was getting darker and her eyes were fighting to close but the feeling of her mom shaking her shoulders was holding her back.

There was a moment of silence.

She could see her moms face, her mouth moving but no noise was coming out.

Then there was black.
