The first time I saw him I knew i had to have him. But i also knew there was something there that would make me have to fight for this. Well to start off...he had no clue who i was... which kind of makes this sound pathetic but there was something he had I needed. So i wasn't going to give up.
In fact, I decided on my determination before I even started to try to get him to notice me. This all seemed crazy. I never even had said a word to him before and the thought of him with someone else sent pain all over my body. At first I thought I was being dumb.. I never had crushes! Guys always seemed to approach me before I had a chance to pick. But I guess there's always a first for everything.

BEEP
BEEP
BEEEEEEEEEEEEP
I reached over to my phone to turn off the alarm when I saw a text from my friend Hannah.
hey am I still giving you a ride?
I mentally slapped myself realizing it was my first day for summer band.
Ever.
I would be a freshman this year.. how could I forget.
Usually people freak about that detail let alone anything else, but of course adding to this I was also starting off in a new school. I always had lived in the North Ridge neighborhood but my mom taught at Bearing so I always went there. This year was different though, a new school..new people. I could start all over. Not trying to say I had some scandalous past or anything, but change was always good for me. I knew people from North Ridge but I would still feel out of place at first.
Hannah was the one person I was close to that went there. So at least I had someone.
I decided that this year I would make sure to at least look decent everyday and come up with what type of reputation I would be given. So with saying that to myself, I slipped on a pair of black leggings, Maroon Vneck and black Converse. Simple but cute. I always wanted to make a good first impression.

Before I start the story I want to tell you a little about myself.. My name Is Lilly, I'm 14 and a freshman. I never really hung out with people my age and I kinda got into the whole party thing a little earlier than most. I've had a past with North Ridge boys. There was Cole, Trevor and John. Cole was my best friend's nephew's best friend. Same age as me by the way (I know what you're thinking) , Trevor was a party friend, and John... well he's kind of the reason my self esteem was at an all time low.

"Hey Lilly" Hannah smiled as I got into her silver SUV.
"ughhh, Im so not ready for today" I complained.
Hannah was in marching band too but she had it easy.. While we were practicing music and marching in the heat of summer 8 hours a day, she was at majorette practice. That lucky bitch.
"Sooooo, how are you and Trevor?" she teased me.
Trevor was my , er boyfriend.. I met him at a party and we ended up kissing drunk.. it was a whole mess of a situation that I was trying to decide if I actually wanted. He wasn't attractive, at all. But he was fun to hang around and actually surprisingly sweet.
"Good I guess", I didn't want to talk about the subject but Hannah and Trevor were close and I knew she would be curious.
"You guess!? You two were all over each other at the party this weekend!" She practically yelled.
"We kissed!!"
Hannah could tell I was annoyed so she turned up the music and we listened the rest of the way.

Here goes nothing.. I thought to myself as I opened the doors of my new school. It was barely July and i was already being dragged here for marching band practices. Ridiculous.
I followed some short boy carrying what it seemed to me to be a trumpet case into the band room, having no clue where I was going. I was freaking out! I knew no one at North Ridge that was in marching band except for Hannah, what would I do!? Would I make any friends at all today? Should I be my outgoing self or come off shy? I replayed scenarios over and over again in my head.
The first thing I did when I got to the band room was try to find the teacher. His name was Mr. Park. Everyone gossiped and made him out to be super attractive, which he wasn't. I mean, he wasn't horrible looking but he wasn't skinny, wore black Raybands reading glasses and a baseball cap.
"Hi, uh Mr. Park?" I said nervously.
"I'm sorry, I don't recall your name. You must be a freshman" he smiled politely. He wasn't nearly as hot as i was hoping. What a disappointment.
"Well yea but I'm actually a new student. I'm from Bearing."
He looked at me curiously, "Lillian, is it?"
I wondered how he knew who I was but I wasn't going to question it. "Yeah, that's me." eyeing him uncertain.
"Your old Band director from Bearing emailed me a week or two ago. She said you have been playing Saxophone for 5 years now. Is that correct?" wow, I never thought Mrs. Locke would actually take the time to email my new director but who ever knew with that women.
"6 this year. Where do you want me to put my instrument." feeling uncomfortable talking this long with my new teacher I never met before.
"We're actually about to get started! Why dont you go pick a locker in the cage room and set up in there." showing me to where all the students were setting up.
"Thanks."

I wasn't ever a shy person and I was certainly never nervous to meet new people but damn was I that day.
A blonde, peppy girl approached me seeming far to excited to be at school in the middle of summer. "Hey! your name's Lilly right? Im Cara, I heared you played saxophone too. Sit by me!?"
O god. I could already tell this girl was going to get on my nerves but had nothing to lose so I followed her to the saxophone section.
North Ridge's band actually had a lot of people in it. It seemed common for people to be there and not be considered weird like if you were a part of Bearing's marching band.
I sat down in the seat next to Cara and looked around the room. People hugging and greeting old friends they havent seen since last school year, upperclassmen "Showing off" and practicing pieces on their inrtuments that were so called "difficult", a girl I knew from hannah; Katy, Another girl I knew named Ashley and then I saw him. Our eyes met and it felt like the whole room stopped.

It was the oddest thing; like love at first sight. yes that sounds cliche but that's the only way I can seem to describe it.
