I walked in the premises of my new school, slightly shocked by it. It was huge building with Grey walls and it actually looked pretty. I couldn’t believe I didn’t notice this beauty, even though I just lived a few blocks away. It was kind of expected because it was a renowned private school, I was eager to see the inside of the building but I was 30 minutes early, and not many students came in yet. I did the usual new student routine and just waited for the bell to ring. After a while more students started to walk in. I tried paying attention to the book I was reading, but I didn’t want people to get the impression of me being a bookworm, so I just put that inside and turned my I-Pod on. Everyone seemed to know each other really well, so the fact that I was new really stood out, I was getting weird glances from people, which was pretty expected. Luckily the bell rang and I got up and walked to class. I entered my class and took a seat at the back. The other students, specially the girls talked without a pause. I think I heard a girl talk about how cute Justin Bieber is and I couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle. After 10 minutes of class starting a man probably around his 50s came and in and the whole class shut up, he was probably the English teacher he seemed to recognize all the faces, except mine, and then he did the thing I really didn’t want to do, introduce myself. I walked up in front of the class and a got stared at with a bunch of uninterested eyes. I didn’t know what to say, with a little hesitation I started.
“Hi, my name is Elena Sander; I- I’m 15 and I… really d-don’t know what else to say’
I smiled and everyone started to laugh along with the teacher, he told me to sit down he started with the lessons. English is so boring, when it comes down to studying it. Its times like these when I feel like going back in History and killing Shakespeare... He seemed nice, but strict at the same time. But I couldn’t care less, because he is a English teacher, and they’re always boring. More periods passed by, and I was bored as hell. Who knew the first day would be so boring?! Finally, after what seemed like years, the bell for lunch rang, I didn’t bring out the map, that would make seem like a lost puppy, so I just followed the crowd of people and see where it led me. A change from a public to a private school was tough. Here we had sections and we had all the classes in one room. The teachers were never late and whenever one teacher got out the other came in, the endless classes really made me tired. I got inside the lunch room; it pretty much seemed like my old school, it was crowded with students. I got my lunch, I wouldn’t really call it my lunch, it was just a sandwich. I walked to an empty lunch table, as I didn’t want to sit with anyone, I was eating my lunch and observing everyone, the girls all looked the same, light side swept bangs with a plain hairstyle. Yes, I observed people a lot. The uniform made everyone look the same tough. For the girls it was Navy Blue skirt with a full sleeved white shirt and a navy blue tie. As for the boys, it was the same except they had to wear a Navy Blue pant. The students were mostly in groups, from the nerds to the geeks to the Goths. Then my eyes landed on them. Great just what I needed, more hot guys who don’t have a clue about my existence. I mean I don’t blame them. Let me describe myself - 5’5, 130 pounds, slightly overweight. With a naturally tanned skin, I have no idea how I got. I have straight black hair that was tied up in a pony tail most of the times and dark brown eyes with dark circles that never goes away. I wouldn’t call myself UGLY, but I wasn’t what someone would call pretty either. Then there were the girls, they seemed like the IT girls in the school, they had the right to be. Whenever they walked, they made heads turn around; they failed to make the uniform look boring and unattractive. They both had blonde hair and I was glad they were not in my section. They went over to the guys I mentioned before and got all over them. Not that anyone had a problem with that. Erg, they looked sort of meant to be, the guys had a jerkish look written all over them, while the girls looked like bitches. I was staring at god knows what for the whole time when the bell startled me. I looked down and realized I just took a bite out of my sandwich.
As the History class went on, I realized I should’ve eaten more. I now have 4 more hours to go without food, I thought. Most people would disagree, but I actually found History interesting. Mr. Harper was going on about a topic which I already read about before, so I was getting sleepy. But I had a feeling this is the kind of school were you get suspended for that. I wasn’t a bad student neither was I a brilliant one. My grades were always a little above average but I never was the best at studies. I looked at my schedule and saw that I had sports for the last 2 hours at school. I was really happy. It’s weird coming from a girl like me, but I am really good at sports. Finally, I had something to look forward too. History ended and then it was time for Trig. I hated that subject, the teacher entered; she didn’t look old enough to be a teacher, 22 at most. I could see the guys drooling over her. She seemed almost too pretty to be a teacher of THIS subject. Miss. Russo was probably new, as she didn’t know anyone from class and was asking us our names. The class went on like this and we didn’t really get started on the lessons. The bell finally rang and as Miss. Russo got out, everyone rushed out of the class for sports.
I was really pleased that we had sports today; I went over the lockers and changed into navy blue shorts and a white sweat shirt. I went out thinking we would play dough ball or something, but instead volleyball net was being set up. Why does God hate me?! I was good in all the other sports and I bet I could outrun the girls, but volleyball? I have a phobia of that game. The coach was a grumpy woman, but she WAS a girl. I went over to her and told her I was having the certain time of the month. She believed me and I sat out for the entire 2hours. Believe me, it was boring, but it was way better than making a fool out of myself. The IT girls, whose name I learned where, Erin and Leah were not here, luckily we didn’t have sports on the same time.
I just watched the game, until the coach called it quits, I with the rest of the girls went back and changed. I guess I gave the ‘I don’t like talking’ vibe as no one talked to me, but I didn’t want to talk to anyone either, it’ll either end with me breaking their face or something worse. School was finally over, but now came the worst part of the day, go home to my mom and dad and tell them about the day
The buzzing of my alarm woke me up right at 6:00. I didn’t want to get up, but a shower was a must. I got ready for school way ahead of time, as I never did any make-up nor did I spend time on my hair. I spent a little time waltzing around my room, after that I went down and heard mom talking to dad-
“She always has trouble making friends” My mom complained.
“Just give her time to fit in, it was just her first day Hun” My dad consoled her. I’m glad at least my dad understood.
I walked in the kitchen and mom stopped talking. She was about to say something but I put my earphones in and enjoyed my bacon and eggs. My mom told me to ‘have a nice day’ or something like. I didn’t understand clearly, because I almost shut the door on her face. I was going to get into some trouble when I come back home.
I went to school just in time for the bell to ring. I got to the class on my own and was about to sit in the chair I sat on yesterday, but it was already occupied by someone else. All the seats on the back row were occupied so I was forced to take a seat on the front.
Mr. Louis, our English teacher came in and looked a little shocked and then he continued, ‘So Dylan, you decided to join us?’ Everyone looked at the guy who occupied my seat before; he had a smirk on his face but didn’t say anything. Weirdly the classes before lunch ended really quickly, especially if it was compared with yesterday.
