He promised he would find time for me. Unfortunately he had an awful record at keeping his promises.

So it didn't surprise me when I found myself all alone in the pouring rain, outside the restaurant, 45 minutes after our date was supposed to start. It didn't surprise me yet, I still held onto hope for some odd reason. And its not like this was the first time either. He has repeatedly done things like this to me for the past three months of our relationship.

Tonight is the last straw though. Ive had enough.

As i begin to trudge toward the subway station in my sopping wet clothing I pull out my phone and dial his number. I shuffle off to the side of the drenched sidewalk and settle on a covered bench outside the subway station entrance, while my phone drones its ring into my ear. It continued ringing, but no answer.

"Hi Daniel its Aubrey. I waited for almost an hour and you never showed. I guess i just was an after though of your precious job again." I started, taking in a sharp breath. "Anyways, Im calling to let you know that I'm finished with this. I know I probably should called us off for over a month now but I guess that I wanted you to have another chance."

Thats not true I thought. I waited to call it off because all my relationships end badly and I'm tired of ending them.

"Have a great night Daniel, sorry things didn't work out."

I looked down at my my phone screen and ended the voicemail.

And that was the end of it.

Thats how they all ended.

Im always either forgotten or cheated on. I guess you could say that i have a bad reputation with dating.

I sat there on that bench and I look out onto the crowded streets before me. I glance up at the sky and run a hand over my face as I slowly exhale. I mutter some thanksgivings to the fact that it is raining so no one could notice the tiny pools of water forming in my eyes.

I nudged a small rock around  on the concrete with the scuffed tip of my wet shoe as I looked out onto the enticing skyline. The large array of intricate structures before me was truly breathtaking and encaptivating. I truly loved living in the city.

I am suddenly jarred from my thoughts when the small buzz from my clutch emerges. I contemplate whether or not to get my phone. I don't think i can take another phone call of Daniel claiming a family emergency or a broken down car for his absence. I listen to the patter of the rain in front of me and decide to wait out the call. The sound continues to permeate through the thin fabric of my small purse and I finally give in. I reach up to my face and blot the patch of skin under my eyes to compose myself, even though it does no good.

"Hello?" I choke out.

"Whats wrong?" The voice asks in a panicked demeanor. Of course Adam would call. He always seems to know when something is wrong. Unluckily for him though, I am frustrated and I want nothing to do with the male population at the time being.

" Nothing Adam, it's late and I've got to go. Talk to you tomorrow." I retort; I am not in the mood for a pick-me-up phone call right now. All I want to do is go to home and sulk.

"Oh come on Bre, It definitely doesn't sound like nothing." He counters

"....."

Silence. That is what he receives in return. If I say nothing it is nothing.

"Im sorry Aubrey. Since I'm working with nothing here, Im going to assume it is a guy. Believe me when I say that Aubrey Burnham does not deserve to be treated like that." I twirl a damp piece of hair in between my fingers and watch small droplets of water fall from it as i stare into the night sky, listening to Adam's every word, wishing he was here. Of course it was a guy. It takes more than a sad movie and some chopped onions to make me cry and Adam knows that.
