Chapter Seven- Telling Tales and Flying

Harry and Ron had been outside after all, and Kat made her way over to them.

"Hey Kat! Whoa." Harry went upside down on his broomstick to avoid a bludger.

"Hello Harry, Ron. Dumbledore said you'd be out here."

"Dumbledore knows we're out here? Why isn't he yelling at me?" Ron nearly fell off his broom.

"He also knows that Fred and George apparently hit you earlier, I wish I was here sooner. Also, he probably knows you're trying to help Harry get ready so he's fine with it, not to mention it's Christmas break." Kat shrugs and sits down after using a spell to get rid of the snow and another spell to dry the ground beneath her.

"Where'd you learn that spell? Haven't learned that one yet, have we?" Harry asks, trying to catch up to the snitch.

"It was in one of Hermione's books she let me borrow. There were some really cool spells in there."

"Do you uh, wanna practice with us?" Ron asks.

"I would if I had a broomstick, where'd you get yours Ron?" Kat stands to go get one.

"Have mine, I'll go get another one." He lands on the ground and hands over his broom. He runs around the corner and returns with another broom. "Alright, Harry needs to be able to get the snitch with someone else trying to get it too, Kat, are you up for that?" Ron asks.

"Of course, Harry?" Kat readies herself on the broom and takes off when Harry nods.

The snitch whizzes around until it seems to disappear for a while, leaving Kat and Harry dodging bludgers and dodging the quaffle when Ron throws it. The snitch returns behind Harry's head and they both fly after it. It takes a steep decline and they both go down to chase it. It turns right, allowing Harry to catch it with only a little difficulty.

"Good job, I was about to pull up actually. Almost went straight to the ground!" Kat pat Harry's shoulder and got off the broom. When met with questioning faces, she told the boys it was time for lunch. After putting away their broomsticks, they walk inside to find Professor Snape coming down some stairs to their right. Harry and Ron run while Kat leisurely walks to not raise suspicion.

"Hello Miss Prewett, what are you doing on this side of the castle?" Professor Snape already knew what was happening outside, he'd mentally made a note of how easily Kat flew.

"Hello Professor, I decided to take a break from reading and take a walk. My eyes started to hurt, sir." She wasn't lying exactly, she just left some parts out. Her eyes did start to hurt before her stomach growled earlier.

"I'll have you know it's time for lunch so please follow me. Mr. Potter and Mr. Weasley can walk with us as well. If you seem to enjoy spying on a conversation between me and one of my house, you can be apart of said conversation." He looks over in the corner where Ron and Harry were hiding.

The walk to the Great Hall was awkward, to say at the least. Harry and Ron walked behind Kat and the Professor. The only time someone talked was when Professor Snape said to take a left, and not a right because it would be quicker.

"Thank you, sir." Kat said and sat at a table with Harry and Ron, once they reached the Great Hall.

"I am so sorry that you have him as the head of your house." Ron said lowly to avoid it from echoing.

"He's not really that bad as long as you don't be stupid. He does automatically dislike others that aren't in Slytherin though, so tough luck for you guys." Kat smiled and shrugged at the end.

"So Ron, Kat, why are you guys still here?" Harry asked, still not knowing why they had to stay but Percy could leave.

"Well, mum said that Bill and Charlie couldn't make it back home so we might as well should stay. I decided to stay because you were going to, and Fred and George stayed because Lee stayed as well."

"I stayed because... well, I don't really know why. I think I'm scared to go back because of what Ginny might think. I could've gone with Draco but I didn't want to because of his parents." Kat looked down at her hands.

"Wait, Malfoy invited you to go to his house for a while? How dare he?" Ron stood up.

"Ron, sit down. It's not that big of a deal, Pansy invited me too but I declined again. Did I tell you that I've gotten a couple of pendants?" She changed the topic.

"Really? What do they do?" Ron sat down and looked at her charm bracelet.

"I'm not sure yet, but this one is a Slytherin symbol and the other one is a troll club." She showed each pendant.

"Sorry, I'm lost. What's so special about getting a couple of pendants on a bracelet?" Harry asked.

"I didn't buy these, I earned them. They just appear whenever something happens. When I was sorted into Slytherin, the Slytherin pendant appeared. When we were fighting the cave troll, the troll club pendant appeared. Each of the pendants have their own power that I alone can use. I got the bracelet from my parents before they died."

––——————————––

Kat slowly opened her Christmas presents alone in the Slytherin Common Room. She got the Weasley sweater that she got every year along with a new photo of her parents that Molly found, but also received gifts from Pansy and Draco. Harry had given her a book and passed along another book from Hermione the day before. Kat opened the gift from Draco and found a new cauldron with new Potions supplies inside. Pansy's gift consisted of a few new cloaks and robes to go with her school uniform. Crabbe and Goyle had only sent letters wishing her a happy Christmas which she replied to, and Skylar had sent a necklace with the symbol of the Deathly Hallows. She sent grateful letters to each person, thanking them immensely for the thoughtful gift. She added different personal notes to each letter of course.
She quickly framed the picture of her parents happily standing together with the Black Lake behind them and set it on the table next to her bed.
'Happy Christmas mum and dad.'
