AUTUMN

Autumn didn't care about rules. Especially the stupid ones like jaywalking. Who cared that you were supposed to cross the street when the walk sign showed up? She was an hour late with meeting her sister near Lola's Cafe, and she was not going to be anymore late by some stupid law. Unfortunately, the cop didn't approve. So not only was she running to meet up with Winter, she was also running away from the cop.

"...freeze...." The cop wheezed. Autumn was at least two blocks ahead of the overweight cop, and four blocks behind Winter. She knew Winter was going to be pissed at her. She always was. In fact, this was going to be Autumn's earliest time with being late. Usually she was two hours or even four hours late. So that was a new record.

3:35pm

Autumn finally arrived outside of the cafe, right where the sign Apricot Road was. It took her longer than expected 'cause she had to deal with the cop. She looked around, expecting to find Winter on one of the outside tables, or to sneak up from behind and scare the living crap out of Autumn, like she always did. But there was no sign of her. Autumn reasoned that she must've gotten tired of waiting for her and went inside the cafe to hide from the scorching sun. Autumn pulled up her light blue denims ('cause she forgot to put a belt on) and walked inside.

The cafe was as cliche as she remembered it. The smells of coffee beans and bread loafs filled the air, making Autumn addicted to it as quick as smoking. Autumn scanned the cafe, searching for her clone, except for the eyes. That was the only difference between her and Winter. Winter had soft, beautiful dark blue eyes that sparkled even when it was pitch black inside. Autumn, however, had hard, exotic light grey eyes that were mysterious and intimidating and you had to seriously look deep inside to find out what she was feeling. Only Winter knew how to decipher her eyes. Only Winter.

But then, as Autumn walked deeper into the small cafe, she still hadn't spotted Winter. Not her kind blue eyes, or silky straight hair. None of it. Maybe she went home Autumn reasoned. But she knew that was a stupid assumption. Win would never go home without telling Autumn. And besides, they promised each other that they would meet outside of Lola's cafe right next to the sign at 2:30pm.

But still, Autumn walked out of the cafe, and sat down on one of the outside tables and waited.

4:30pm

And waited

5:30pm

And waited

6:30pm

And waited

7:30pm

And waited

8:30pm

Autumn was tired of waiting. She looked down at her watch. 5 hours. She had been waiting for Autumn for 5 hours. Autumn stood up from the chair and thanked the lady inside for letting her wait there even though the cafe closed two hours ago.

Autumn started walking in the alley, the shortest way home, until she spotted those once soft, blue eyes, lifeless, behind a dumpster...
