Chapter 12; Why Did I Leave Them?

Despite our distance from the brawl, Chris and I could still hear
Mack's snarling and the clanking of Jeremy being whacked with a
tentacle.
    Suddenly, it stopped.

"Why-" Chris started.

"Sh" I stopped him and rolled back to where we were.

    They weren't there. Nothing. As if we hadn't even been there.
Everything looked happy and peaceful, as if they just disappeared from
existence. The homeless men were back in the alley, the store was calm
and clean, just like we were never there before.

"Well that's not suspicious at all" Christopher sarcastically mentioned.

"Where...where'd they go?" It was nerve-wracking, especially because
Jeremy was malfunctioning, he could've been off causing a massacre or
something.

    Chris bent down and picked something up off the ground. It was a
little notebook. We opened it, and it looked like a journal of some
sort.

May 7th,

    The robot, the alien, and the handicap escaped from the lab
downtown. Fellow officer Christopher broke off in the chaos on the way
back to the station. One car was left behind for him, despite the
sheriff's orders. He said that Christopher teamed up with the
fugitives, but we all doubt that. The boy was too loyal and new to do
that. He had just seen his mentor killed by the robot, he wouldn't
join them.

May 12th,

    We're still following the group, a plaza in the middle of town
sent a help request. A group of four, one of which was in a
wheelchair, one in a police uniform, one overdressed and insanely
tall, and a pink and also tall person. They definitely matched the
description of the fugitives, let's just hope the robot won't go crazy
again. We're heading in with Doctor Brown, in hopes that he can keep
the robot at bay if anything went wrong. Instead of the unreliable
lab, the sheriff directed we brought whoever we could find to the
courthouse instead. It doesn't make sense, but we gotta get paid.

"Well that wasn't hard to figure out." Chris commented on the excerpts.

"We can't just let them get kidnapped! We have the car, let's go!" I
impatiently ordered.

"Hold on, going alone? We're human, it's not like we can go nuts and
rip off car doors."

"And? They don't have androids at a courthouse. Humans against humans,
Chris, we have to go save them."

"If you say so..."

    We rushed to the car, and went off to the courthouse.

                            ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The parking lot was littered with cop cars not even in parking
spaces. The place was bustling with officers, it was ridiculous. Thank
God our car looked the same as all of the others, because the building
was being guarded by helmeted people with bullet proof vests. We
needed a way in, but how?
"Well how the heck are we getting in through that?" Chris worried.
"No idea, but we're gonna, somehow." I was sure, we couldn't leave our
friends behind. "We need a distraction of some sort, but there are
only two of us..."
    At once we looked at each other, and then at the radio on the
dashboard of our car. We could call every single officer and keep them
away. Lead them to somewhere else.
"You're insane Shelby," Chris shook his head as he grabbed the radio.
"I know." I grinned, "But you love it don't ya."
"I can't deny that, these few days have been the most fun I've had in
my entire life. Now shh, they suspect something if they hear you."
I nodded and kept quiet as Chris talked into the radio.
"10-14, 10-15, code 30, officer Christopher requesting urgent backup
at (Idk random address). I repeat 10-101" He quickly hung up, and
loads of cops burst out of thr building and drove away.
"What code did you use?" That was so fast.
"Backup, citizen holding suspect, and prisoner custody. That last one
is our key inside."
