*Insert fantastic make-out scene here*
We let go, my emerald green eyes met his glistening blue ones. We
were beamed at one another, foreheads leaning against each other."You're a fantastic girl, Shelby."
All the fear of messing up was gone, replaced with happiness and
natural giddiness "And what a fantastic boy you are, Jonathan."We laughed, and every worry that was previously in my mind had
vanished. Not even the fact that we were in a courthouse, trying to
save a robot and an alien, surrounded by police that had been lied to,
guards even on the same floor. Nothing bothered me at this moment, we
were stuck in this one wonderful moment. Time moved around us, yet
didn't touch us. Until that one fatal door opening.
We hadn't noticed the door open during our, uh, glee. We hadn't
noticed the scruffy brunette standing in the doorway with tears in his
eyes. We hadn't noticed the broken relationship lingering in the room.
I hadn't noticed my betrayal.
Jonathan saw him first, my back was towards the door after all.
Looking up, his pupils shrunk as the smile and color faded from his
handsome face. He moved away, standing back up straight, but being the
idiot I was, I held onto his arm. Reluctant to let the moment end. But
everything had to be interrupted.
I spun the chair around, and I could imagine my face did exactly
what Jonathan's did. Christopher was standing there, shaking in
horror. His fists were clenched, but his teeth were grinding even
more. His eyes were filled with tears, and as he spoke, I could hear
the unevenness in his voice."It's not fair!" He was trying to shout, but couldn't through his sobs
"I loved her first! It's not-" He broke down right in front of my
eyes.My stomach was filled with regret. The wonderful feeling that was
there before disappeared into thin air, replacing itself with guilt.
Since when did Chris love me? When had he shown it? What had I missed?
That was when I remembered his attitude. From the moment we met
Jonathan, Chris was rude and snappy. His chest puffed out, his arms
crossed, his lack of eye contact. I was so entranced by the blonde boy
in front of me, that I never noticed his jealousy. I ignored every
sign he gave me. I didn't just ignore it, I never even saw it. I
should've seen what Chris was trying to do before I fell for someone
else. I should've paid more attention to the feeling I had for him
before. But I didn't, and now I was in love with someone else. And to
Chris, it was the wrong person.
Yet, despite the clues being out together, I couldn't say a thing
to the broken boy in front of me. The back of my mind wanted to do
something, I wanted to help him, but I was still yearning for more of
the satisfaction I felt not ten minutes ago. The back of my mind was
screaming to do something, to make me realize what I had done, why he
was so hurt, but it was blurred. Blurred by the terrible choices I had
made."Christopher, my friend-" Jonathan attempted to reach out and help him.
"Save it, blondie!" Chris wailed, not letting him finish.
Jonathan reeled back, now unsure of what to do.
"Eight and twelve." Chris stammered.
"What?" What were the numbers for-
"They're in eight and twelve!"
Jonathan rushed to the control board, and flicked the switches for
cell eight and cell twelve. "Thank you-""I didn't do it for you!"
Within all of the drama taking place, I had forgotten about Mack
and Jeremy. The two who got us in this mess in the first place."We- we have to go get them." I stuttered to Jonathan, who quickly
picked me up and started towards the door.Chris moved out of the way, "I guess I was too slow."
We went to the elevator to retrieve our friends, Christopher didn't follow.
That was the last I saw of him for a while.
