I wake up and find myself on the couch in Haymitch's home. He's sitting on the floor beside my feet. I smile weakly at him. Suddenly remembering the mess I made of myself earlier, I apologize to him. "Sorry about before. I'm a right mess. You didn't need to see me like that."
His face changes, angry, but not at me. "You have every right to feel the way you do. I just want you to know that you can come to me with anything. I know that I will never live up to your father, but I could be like a father figure. But don't call me dad. That would be weird. Anyway, just know that I love you and I'm here for you."
My lip starts to quiver, and for the first time, Peeta isn't there. I reach out my arms and Haymitch catches me. "I'm- I'm so-rry." I try to say, but I can't without sobbing harder. Haymitch gently pushes me off him and holds my face in his hands. "Don't ever be sorry for anything that is out of your control." I nod and he gives me one last hug before we stand up.
"Peeta went back to your place to put Willow to sleep. He said that if you wake up, to keep you here because you might get sick. But I can take you home if you want? I mean, its only twenty yards, for Christ sakes." He chuckles and I agree.
When we get to the door, I hear Peeta laughing, "Alright. Okay. I've got to go. Love you too. Bye" I look through the window to see him hanging up the phone. I look at Haymitch, he has a look in his eyes that indicates he's not happy.
Haymitch grabs my hand and leads me back to his house. I feel weak all of a sudden, and reality hits me. Who was Peeta talking to? Why did he say 'love you' at the end of the call? He can't be cheating on me, can he? Apparently my thoughts show on my face because Haymitch tells me to sit down. I do.
"Okay, Peeta will be walking through that door any second, and what I want you to do is act normal, like you didn't hear or see anything. You understand?" I nod. "We need to get the facts before accusing him of anyth-" I cut him off. "The facts? He told someone else that he loves them! What more information do we need! I can't believe him!" I stop myself crying, just as Peeta walks in.
