It has been 7 years , 3 months and 2 days and I have never thought of falling for anyone else but Ethan. Like every other high school couple which survived till college, I and Ethan met in school. He was sitting behind me during the French lecture when Miss Wilson asked him to introduce himself.
"Je m'appelle Ethan, J'ai 14 ans et je suis.. Native American" was his first sentence.
"Américain de naissance" miss Wilson corrected him.
I looked at him speaking. A bit under confident, he was, Unlike Lorenzo or Carl who would mesmerise girls with their looks and basketball skills.
Ethan was different. Tall and thin , he buried himself in books. With a slight dusky complexion, He was not attractive in true senses of Mount high.
Built in 1706, Mount high was one of the oldest buildings in Alexandria. It was a public library And during the terrible civil war it had proved to be the rescue place for most of the Native Americans.
It was converted into a high school in 1813, And ever since that It became the hub of talent in Alexandria.
Ethan Decloure belonged to the family of Joseph decloure, The rebel Who fought righteously against the eugenics, by the invaders. I always wondered if he actually belonged to that family of rebels, because if it was the case, he wouldn't have been missing The mean bone in his body.
Docile, understanding, well behaved, nerdy was all how I looked at him, but for rest of the class he was a mere stupid Fellow on whom jokes would me made.
'Why don't you start dating Decloure?" Was after heard when a girl talked stupid during lunch.
I had found him interesting, beautiful in his own senses And therefore I decided to ask him to join me during the lunch hours.
I still remember the shock in his eyes and stammer on his lips while he took 4 minutes before saying 'yes'.
We had started on a note of friendship that day.
29 December, 2009 he had asked me out. It was our prom night and we officially went as a couple.
Carl stared at me with horror when I told him that I was finally dating Ethan.
Carl had liked me ever since I could remember. He lived in the house next to mine and we had practically grown up together. Mrs Pike, his mother had always treated me like her own daughter. She would bring me chocolates from the orient, Dresses from France and jewelry from coastal areas. She was a descendant of Henry Pike, one of the most important scientists of Alexandria, who carried on eugenics. She hated tribal's. ' Crime was in their blood. She often exclaimed.
Carl had learnt hating Indians from her. He despised them and thus he hated Ethan.
"Are you fucking crazy, Sam? He is an Indian!" He said. "It was one thing being friends with him , but this ? Have you lost it ?"
I could not explain My best friend, why I fell in love with Ethan, it was not because I didn't have an answer to that, but because I know Carl would not understand.
I had fell for Ethan, not for all that he was but because of all that he was not. He was not a stupid Indian kid, he was not a thief or a molester. He was just a laid down boy who had never been seen anything else than an 'Indian'. He was a potential and he loved me. It was all that mattered, I knew him more than anyone else... I knew him And that is why I loved him.
