I'm super sorry for being late but I was having some writers block. But I guess it's better late than never right? Also I realize that this would most likely never happen but I thought it was cute and I couldn't get the idea out of my head.
*dating*
After an extremely long and difficult case, Hank had decided to let Erin and Jay go on a little weekend vacation alone. This case had been hard on them. An ex-military buddy of Jay's had come into town and had become the leader in a trafficking ring. Once Hank had heard of who it was involving, he tried to pull Halstead off of it. But Jay had proved that he obviously had a lot of background on the soldier, Henry Raines, because they were in the same unit.
Not only did Jay have to deal with his war days again, but Raines had held Erin at gun point for almost an hour and eventually was taken out by Jay himself. After being held against her will with a gun pointed to her head by a trafficker and Jay having to take out one of his old buddies, Hank figured they had deserved a few days leave. He could tell how worried Jay was, along with himself, when Erin was in danger. And he also knew how worried Erin got when something from Jay's military past came up, dealing with PTSD can be difficult.
Originally they had planned to just stay home, but they felt getting out of Chicago for once would be good for them. Jay had always wanted to take her to his cabin in Wisconsin, and once she finally had agreed he couldn't be happier. They packed a bag and left early Friday morning so they could have as much time as possible. They only reason Jay was allowed to drive was because Erin didn't know the way, he wasn't complaining though.
About an hour into the drive, Erin was getting restless in the passenger seat and couldn't stop flipping the radio stations.
"Can you just pick one already?" Jay said chuckling as he saw her get frustrated.
"There's nothing on, the passenger seat is so boring."
"Tell me about it," he said smirking at her as she gave him a dirty glance. "Why don't you just plug in your music on your phone?"
"Welllll..." she said dragging out the 'l' ask long as she could.
"Your phone is dead isn't it?" All she could do was giggle to herself knowing what was coming, "Erin, how do you never remember to plug your phone in at night, your charger is literally right next to the bed."
"In my defense, you had me a little distracted last night," she said smiling to herself as she remembered what they did when they were trying to pack a bag. Of course both of them changing in and out of clothes seeing what to bring wouldn't last long, somehow all the clothes just had to come off.
"Touché. Here, use my phone."
"Thanks," she said as she plugged in the phone and finally found a good song to listen to.
Two hours later they stopped for lunch at some small diner in southern Wisconsin. Jay said they had a diner like this back up where his cabin was and it was his favorite place to go while he was out there.
"Hold on, what is the name of the town again?"
"Argonne, it only has about 500 people living there."
"That's a lot smaller compared to Chicago," she said laughing, taking a couple french fries from Jay's plate.
"Tell me about it, everyone up here knows everyone."
Once they were done with their meal, they were off for another two hour drive to finish the trip. About halfway in, Erin had fell asleep and he couldn't help but smile at her. He had always thought she was the most beautiful person ever, but when she was sleeping it was another type of beautiful. She was peaceful, and there were no worry lines, no signs that she ever had to deal with the pain she did. He liked to see her that way, happy.
