"I'm so sorry, all of the tests came back negative, but his body is dying. There's no clear cause or explanation. The best we can do for him is keep him comfortable for a few years," the doctor said.
Shiro Fujimoto was outside of a hospital room. One of his two adoptive sons on the inside. Rin had, had a seizure a few days ago and they had no explanation. Rin then proceeded to explain that the past year he had joint pain and would frequently vomit. All of this was new information to Shiro.
Shiro closed his eyes and exhaled, trying not to cry. It didn't matter that Rin wasn't his biological son. Shiro considered himself Rin's dad."How long does he have?" Shiro whispered.
"At most, maybe until he's twenty. Whatever it is he has is moving very slowly. If it progresses any quicker, it could only be two or three years. It's hard to say for certain, I can give a better estimate if you bring him in every other month," Dr. Ozawa told Shiro. "I can explain it to him if you'd like. He has to know what's going on."
"No," Shiro said. "I think I should be the one to tell him. He's never really taken things in an expected way."
"I understand."
Rin Okumura walked around the corner with a sigh. He couldn't keep his secret much longer. No, not his son of Satan secret. His illness. He had it since he was a child. The doctors told Shiro that it was an undiscovered illness and the only thing they could do was keep running tests and figuring out the symptoms.
Rin knew he was getting worse, it was a matter of time before he kicked the bucket. He would feel so much better when he drew Kurikara, but when he put it back, he would feel so much worse. The last few times he did it, he collapsed, unable to carry his own weight.
His prescriptions were close to being out and he had scheduled another appointment.
He had been so tired lately and couldn't help but fall asleep more than normal. Then there was the nausea, he would suddenly be hit with the need to throw up often.
When he got to the hospital, he made his way to the check in window and checked in. He grabbed a magazine as he knew there would be an unnecessarily long wait. He was prepared for getting his blood drawn and the series of questions he was always asked.
He was in the waiting room for about an hour and thirty minutes. He was measured and weighed then lead to his room soon after and left to wait again.
His body choose to make him vomit the same moment his doctor came in. Soon followed by a headache.
"Does that happen a lot, Mr. Okumura?" His doctor asked.
Rin nodded before continuing, "Same with the headaches and the fatigue. It takes everything in me not to fall asleep everywhere. I can't even stay up past seven. The antidepressants aren't doing anything either."
"I see, and how are your eating habits?"
"Shit. It's hard to eat when I feel like I'm just going to throw it up."
Dr. Ozawa nodded. "Your blood pressure was low. I'm going to take it again."
Rin nodded. He did as his doctor asked and his blood pressure was taken three more times.
"You said you haven't been eating well?" The doctor asked. Rin nodded. "That could explain it. It also explains how underweight you are. How much do you eat a day?"
"I eat a serving of meat and rice for lunch and dinner, although it doesn't stay in my stomach for long."
Dr. Ozawa nodded. "Where do you get the food?"
