Rain pattered against the opaque glass walls of the house. This somewhat exorbiant house overlooked a bustling city, filled with flickering lights and dreams. The sun had vanished underneath the horizon, leaving the somber clouds to come and dance.
Then in that house lay two lovers, dreamers. Two very different people who had come together by accident, or maybe fate. She used to be a plain, normal woman who happened to be an actress. Now she was Hollywood's sweetheart, who came to be by heartbreak and compromises. Then, well he was a jazz pianist and still is.
Her head lay on his chest, while his fingers tenderly brushed through her silky auburn hair. She sighed, mesmerized by this gentle side of him which she had been deprived of when they first met.
Mia still didn't know how she had done it. She didn't know how she had managed to break down the walls of this stubborn man. But she had, and it revealed the most amazing and lovable person Mia had ever met.
Her thoughts were cut short when she felt Seb's lips press against her cheek. They slowly traveled down her neck, while he whispered something incoherently after every soft kiss. She felt her face grow hot, as she somehow wasn't used to this level of intimacy yet.
When Seb pulled back, he chuckled, noticing Mia's crimson cheeks.
"Mia, baby you're blushing again," he said, with an amused smirk appearing on his face.
"Ugh, why do you always point that out?" Mia whined, hiding her face in Seb's shoulder.
"Because you look adorable when you do so, and it makes me feel good about myself since I have this effect on you."
"Who knew you were so egotistical?"
"Only around you." He laughed.
"Well I'm glad I make you feel that way." Mia responded, bringing her face close to Seb's, so her lips were a mere inch away from his. A shaky laugh left her mouth when he moved his hand up to caress her cheek.
"Hm what's so funny, Miss?"
"N-nothing I just-" she cut herself off and just stared into Sebastian's eyes. She had never realized how mesmerizing they were. A stormy blue sea gazed back at her: so mysteriously, yet so kindly. Then a comforting silence surrounded them, while they became hopelessly lost in eachother's gazes.
His lips gently moved against hers, filling her up with a feeling of euphoria. The way his hands ran through her hair, ever so softly, made her feel so good. Mia's heart raced faster everytime their lips made contact, everytime he sighed, I love you, against them.
-
Mia's eyes abruptly opened, heavy breaths leaving her lips. She stared wide-eyed at the cieling, trying to recall what had just happened. Her fingers gripped the white, satin bedsheets firmly as she attempted to calm herself down. Just breathe in and out, she thought.
Had she actually just dreamt about Seb when her husband for God's sake, was sleeping right beside her? Her gaze shifted to David, whose arm was loosely wrapped around her slim waist. A wave of guilt engulfed Mia and her body tensed at the thought of Seb's fingers running through her hair. Just like in her dream.
Mia couldn't help but admit the truth-that she thought about Sebastian, at least once in a while. But when she did, she didn't regret remembering all those romantic evenings they had spent together. The two of them always sat at the piano; Sebastian playing the melody while Mia sang along. The soft glow from the green lights had always illuminated their faces, accentuating the various shades of pink that spread across their cheeks as their gazes landed on eachother. There was a certain smile Sebastian always gave her when they sang; one smile that showed how much he truly loved and adored her.
Things with David were different. Their relationship, at this point, felt forced. There was no more sweet good morning kisses; no more movie nights, where the two would stay wrapped in eachother's arms until they fell asleep; no more I love you's. His nature had been becoming more aggressive recently, ever since he had noticed Mia's sudden interest in Seb's. Except she had never told him about Sebastian in the first place, thinking it would ruin her chances with any other man.
Her heart ached everytime David arrived home in the evening. The door always opened with an eerie creak, waking up a half asleep Mia. She tried greeting him amiably, but only to be ignored when he proceeded to pull out his cellphone-answering missed calls. Then at times, he would unexpectedly demand where she had been. He would roughly grab her by the wrist and yank her back, forcefully into his chest.
"David what the hell is wrong with you?" Mia would say, attempting to hide the evident fear in her voice.
"Come on honey, I just want to talk."
"This isn't talking, you're interrogating me." she exclaimed, pulling her wrist out of David's grasp. "Is what you're supposed to do with your wife? I don't think so."
In a short span of time, her thoughts began to cease, allowing her to finally relax. Though a continuous question played in her head, do I still love him? She stared at David for a moment, before closing her eyes and letting out a deep, shaky breath. Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes, but she didn't allow them to fall. She couldn't cry because of this, not because of something so trivial.
Mia needed to get out of this life. She could no longer stand hiding behind the fake smiles she put on the red carpet and even the ones around her friends. The now few friends she had because fame had pushed them all away.
Though there was one person she thought would still care about her; the way he had cared before her debut. She remembered the small smiles they had given eachother that night at the club. The glow of the neon lights shone in their faces, serving as spotlights, making the tears in Mia's eyes clearly visible. It was a sincere smile, but one that still kept the promise: "I'm always gonna love you." Mia didn't know what she going to say when she saw him again. She didn't know if things would work out. Could they still be friends?
She would just have to wait and see.
