harry may or may not be a robot (he really is). louis may or may not be his creator (he's not, but he wishes he was).
harry is a highly functioning, humanlike robot that can do just about anything that you can - but better.
louis is a middle class citizen who definitely doesn't have enough money to buy harry, but when he saves the creator's life, harry is given to him as a gift.
so, robots are made to function and do work.. are they also made to love, or is louis just falling for a robot that is just doing as he's programmed to?
