I woke up to a screaming woman, at first I thought it was a dream but it was too real. I couldn't tell who it was, but there was only one other person who even lived in my house. My mother. That's when I heard her yell, words, not just yelling. "Run, run, as far and as fast as you can. Go now." My mother said.
I busted my window open and I ran out, I could tell that it was around 7:30. That didn't matter, I just kept running. Just like my mom told me- as fast and as far as my tired legs could take me. I ran two miles and got to the grocery store when I realized that I had no money to buy anything. I did have my phone so I called me best friend Scout.
"Hey MK, what's up?" She said.
"Hey Scout. I was just wondering if you were home." I asked.
"I actually just got home, you can come over. Do you need something specific?" She said.
"I think I just need someone to talk to for a while."
"Okay, I'm just going to take a shower but I'll be done in like fifteen minutes." She said.
"Okay, great! Thank you so much!" I said forcing myself not to cry. After Scout hung up I called the police and they told me that I would know what happened soon. Then I started walking to the Goldman's house. When I got there Mrs. Goldman answered the door.
"Hi, Mary Kate. Scout told me you were coming over- come right in." She said with a beaming smile as usual.
"Thanks Mrs. Goldman. Do you know where she is?"
"She's in her room, go right on up. She will be so glad to see you." Mrs. Goldman said.
"Thank you." I walked up the stairs and into Scout's room. Spotless as ever. It was a white room with a mint comforter and a mint rug on the ground. A white desk and white pillows on the bed. Scout was there in the middle of the bed, on her computer.
"Hey MK." She said not really noticing my presence even though she knew I was there.
"Hey Scout. Writing a book as usual?" I asked with a teasing tone.
"You know it. My viewers are just begging for more on my blog." She said, once again not noticing me.
"Well, I'm so glad it's going so well. I came her to talk, so can we?" I asked. Scout closed her laptop and suddenly was focused on me and looked like a new level of concerned.
"We can most definitely talk. What's up?" Scout said.
"I woke up this morning to my mother screaming and yelling for me to run. I have no idea why and I'm not super sure that I want to know why." I said, waiting for a scared expression and maybe a hug. Nothing came, Scout just had a straight face, didn't move, and didn't talk for a couple minutes.
"That- that's big. I don't even know what to say. Do you know what happened to her? I-" My phone cut her off.
"Hello, who is this?" I said into the phone.
"Hello, this is Chief Browne of the Smalle Valley Police Department. Is this Mary Kate Anderson?" He said with his voice shaking.
"This is she. Is there a problem?" I asked, my voice starting to shake, too.
"Well, this is hard to say. Your father- at least that's who we assumed it was- has been sent to jail for murder and well, your mom. Your mom is dead, she died at 8:03 AM.
