Emily
The headteacher finished making her speech and then one of the officials stepped forward and called all of the players who had just finished competing in the tournament to gather round. Toby wasn't able to come with me because he had to talk to a teacher about something but Brookyln was able to. The two of us started to walk over to the officials' stand.
"First of all, may I just say how well each and every one of you played today" The official I had spoken to earlier congratulated me and the other players standing around. "I know you all know what's coming so I wont keep you waiting any longer."
The official began to read out lists of names and those who had their names called stepped forward, listened to what the official had to say and then left. Finally It was only one other girl and me left. I heard my name called and stepped forward along with the other girl. Who, if I heard her name correctly, was called Maisy. Brooklyn followed.
"Congratulations girls, this doesn't happen often." The official said.
"What doesn't happen often?" Maisy spoke out my exact thoughts.
"The two of you have been chosen to play with the Girls A Team here at the academy. Normally it takes a student several years to reach the standard of the A Teams, however myself and my team of officials believe that the two of you would exceed the general ability of the B and C teams. Most of the girls in the A Team will be older than you so I have been told to give you the option of declining the A Team invitation. If you do so, you will join the B team instead where you will be with girls that are around your age. It is up to you which team you would rather join."
Maisy answered first. "I would prefer to go into the B team please sir."
"No problem, I'll see you at the B Team practise then!" The official replied before turning to hear an answer from me.
I turned to look at Brooklyn and he nodded.
"I would like to join the A team please sir." I answered.
"That is also not a problem. I'm glad you chose the A team if I'm honest. Although they will be older than you, I think that the team will best suit your ability." The official replied smiling.
I couldn't help the happiness from welling up inside me. As the official walked off, I turned to Brooklyn again.
"Well done Em! I knew you were going to make the A Team! Down to my teaching no doubt" He winked at me.
"Your teaching? Pfft" I replied with the same tone of sarcasm as Brooklyn had used.
"I'm pretty sure it was down to my teaching. Come on missy, let's go and find Toby."
He started to walk off so I began to walk too. He turned around to see me following and broke into a run: I did the same. He began to sprint but I sprinted faster. I caught up with him and jumped on his back. I must have taken him by surprise but he didn't object to carrying me so together we went to find Toby.
