*1 week later
Class of 2003. The special day I was always waiting for. I wore a peach dress and white sandals. We were scheduled to be there 1 hour and a half before the actual graduation ceremony. Gray for the girls and purple for the boys. I was very nervous about giving the valedictory speech, sure I had a loud mouth but speaking in front of a lot of people was definitely not my thing. I breathed very heavily in a paper bag.
"You have got to be kidding me" Ms. Bass walked in with a black cap and gown on holding what looked to be diplomas.
"I never spoke in front of a lot of people" I said.
"You see these people almost every day what's the problem?" she asked.
"Y'all ask for too much" I laughed.
"Shut up Destiny and just give the speech stop being scary you scaredy cat" Ms. Bass walked out laughing.
"Why did you come to graduation looking nappy headed, you kids are so aggravating did you even try looking good for this day???" I could hear Ms. Bass in the background yelling at someone. Cameron suddenly walked in a minute later with a wild hairdo. It wasn't the Goku hairstyle, it was just terrible. Luckily, he was going to be wearing a cap the majority of the time during the graduation.
"You were the one she was yelling at?" I asked laughing.
"Yep" he replied setting his cap and gown down on the chair while looking at his hair in the mirror.
"Bad hair day?" I asked being super silly.
"Yep" he said again in the same exact way. I couldn't even say a word, all I did was smirk.
"Oh come on, you and Ms. Bass had worse days than me. Remember when she walked in with a hat and glasses on like she was a celebrity?" he asked.
"Yes, that was so wrong when someone purposely bumped into her just for her hat to fall off, it looked like Chewbacca off of Star Wars" I laughed. We kept reminiscing about the funny times at Bass High School until Mr. Williams walked in while we were laughing. The laughter quickly turned into silence, I couldn't even hear a mouse squeaking at all.
"What y'all get quiet for?" he asked folding his arms looking serious as ever.
"Well you came in out of nowhere" Cameron replied.
"Ms. Valedictorian are you ready to give your speech and graduate?" Mr. Williams asked me smiling.
"I'm a little nervous but yes" I replied giving a thumbs up. Mr. Williams looked at Cameron and thought twice. He suddenly looked at Cameron again and facepalmed as if he wanted to punch Cameron.
"What?" Cameron asked.
"Boy what the hell is wrong with your hair???" he asked yelling.
"Today just wasn't the day Mr. Williams" Cameron replied putting his gown on.
"Alright, well I hope y'all are ready because the ceremony is beginning in a few minutes" Mr. Williams said.
"By the way y'all are lucky that day was actually funny or I would've snitched to Ms. Bass about you saying she looked like Chewbacca" Mr. Williams said ready to walk out. Me and Cameron looked at each other with our mouths wide opened laughing.
"Alright baby I'll leave so you can prepare to give your speech I got something special for you later I love you" he kissed me.
"I love you too bighead" I touched his hair.
"Y'all are going to stop throwing shade at me okay? My hair didn't do anything to y'all" he said and left.
For the first time I prayed to God that everything would go well this day and that He would keep guiding as I walk my first step in adulthood.
