"I cannot believe I have to spend my summer with him!" I was so mad. My father and I hadn't talked since he left when I was 12 years old. At least my sister Chelsea would be there. (She was too young at the time to remember my father when he left)

I had just finished packing and I could fit 3 months worth of clothes into a little duffel bag, considering the fact that we lived in a little loft and my closet was the size of a shoe box. I threw my clothes down the stairs. My mother yelled it was time for dinner.

My mother had made my favorite dish, spaghetti and meatballs. I could tell she was trying to make up with me. Her and I had gotten in a huge fight earlier that day when she tried to back up my father and make it sound like this summer actually had a shot of being somewhat enjoyable. I knew it wasn't her fault that my father suddenly had tried to become a parent, and by doing so would ruin my summer.

"I'm sorry mom" I said softly trying to break the awkward tension.

She smiled with relief knowing I wasn't going to leave NYC angry at her. "Oh Sam..Thank god! I couldn't have my baby girl leave being mad at me!-- And who knows you may have a good time!?"

I laughed and said sarcastically "Yeah-- right ha!" My sister interrupted "I think it will be great. I'm looking forward to it!" She didn't even know our father, what did she have to look forward to?

"Alrighty ladies it's 9:30! And you have a 4 am flight! Time to go to bed."

My sister and I shared a room. She passed out in about 5 minutes.. but I couldn't sleep. I was texting Caroline all night about this trip. She was surprisingly excited for me. She knew my father as well as I did.. considering the fact she practically lived at my house until we went to college. She made me feel a little better, and helped my anxiety go down a little bit. I fell asleep for about 10 minutes and then the alarm went off. It was time to leave.

My mom drove my sister and I to the airport. We got lost at first, but then we saw the QANTAS airline. We gave the man our tickets and passports. It was so strange to be flying all the way to Australia, I was actually leaving the big apple. My dad sent me a text before I got on the plane.. It read

"Have a safe flight! See you soon! We have a lot to talk about! Love you! -Daddy"

That's when I realized It was going to be a long flight.
