Chapter 1: A Whole New World
One week, seven days, one thousand eighty minutes, and four thousand eight seconds. That's how long I was in what I thought would be the most magical place I could ever imagine being.
All I wanted was to back home in Florida. Back to my friends, my family, teachers and even my annoying neighbours.
I was stuck in that dreadful place for three months and I had only lived through a week of it.
One boring week. A week with no friends, a week without my mother, and a week away from home.
I attended Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School (High school) for a few days, and I didn't even make a friend yet, and to be honest, I didn't t think that I would have made one any time soon.
I never thought that life in England would be so dull and boring. I enjoyed the company of my auntie and cousin but sometimes their company was not enough, and the only thing that could help was by having a friend. Someone to whom I could relate with and tell all my secrets. Not my auntie and her daughter. Yes, her Ella (my cousin) is just a year older than than I am but that doesn't mean she is my friend. She is my cousin, not a friend.
I was always an unlucky child, ever since I was a little girl I was known to be 'the unlucky child' and since then I haven't grown out of it. I know that it was my own fault because I was the one who begged my mother to come here. I guess that being stuck in England for a week caused me to have a change of thought.
I laid on my bed staring at the ceiling for about an hour straight, deep in thought.
'Why did you want to come here again?' my subconscious reminded me. "Because I wanted to see my family and I thought that things were going to turn out fun!" I snapped back at my other half. "And hopefully things will get better." Hopefully.
Hopefully. That is all I could convince myself, 'just have hope and everything will turn out fine'.
I had to wait two months and three weeks more until I went back home and reunited with my parents, sister and my friends. "I miss them so-"
"Star hon, dinner is ready!" my aunty yelled from somewhere downstairs, interrupting my thoughts.
I groaned before lazily getting up from the bed. "Coming!"
Dinner was eaten in an uncomfortable silence, until my aunty decided to speak. "how was your day at school love?" she asked in a sing-song British accent.
While twirling my pasta around with my fork I simply answered, "Fine"
I saw the look of disappointment spread across her face and guilt washed over me.
I sighed, "Look, I'm sorry," I paused for a moment, looking over her features before I continued, "it's just that I am quite tired lately and I haven't adjusted yet."
"It's fine Star, I understand."
With that she left the topic alone and I was grateful for that.
The entire time I stayed there I completely ignored both she and Ella, I shut down the world and stayed in my room listening to music all day. That was because I was too broken to speak to anyone.
After dinner I went back upstairs to take a shower before going to bed.
I allowed the steaming water pour onto my skin while massaging my scalp with shampoo until my mind was completely blank.
When done with my shower I blow-dried my hair before butting on a thick pair of woolen socks and sweats.
I flopped down on the bed but couldn't fall into sleep. Tossing and turning, I tried to allow the sleep to overwhelm me but it was to no avail.
I finally gave up and took my Ipad and headphones from the dresser to fill my ears with the melodious sound of music.
I scrolled through my list of music, listening to song after song but I was still awake, until one of my favourite songs began playing. 'Little Things'
'Your hand fits in mine like it's made just for me
But bare this in mind it was meant to be
And I'm joining up the dots with the freckles on your cheeks
And it all makes sense to me
I know you never loved, the crinkles by your eyes
When you smile.
You've never loved your stomach or thighs
The dimples in your back
At the bottom of your spine
But I love them endlessly
I won't let these little things
Slip out of my mouth
But if I do
It's you
Oh it's you
They add up to
I'm in love with you
And all these little th-'
I sang softly to myself. With those last words I drifted off to sleep and into the world of dreams with a small smile plastered on my face and my Ipad in hand.
