Nyctophilia: the love of darkness or night, finding relaxation or comfort in darkness. I have always been fascinated by the dark, I find it quite comforting and it also helps me concentrate. It sounds stupid but not only am I fascinated by the dark and comforted by it, but I also fear it.
I love to sit in my room with my lights off and play a game or watch a dvd, but when I am walking home down a dark alley or a creepy silent path, then I tend to shit pants a little.
I remember one day, I was out with a few friends near the beach, we had been out for a while so once it started to get dark, me and my friend Tom decided to start heading home, we were like an hours distance from our houses so we thought we would take a short-cut.
The short-cut was a long dark path that lead us through a small forest area behind a housing estate, it was cold even in the summer, and dark even in the day. We were quite scared to go down the deep, dark, deadly path of hell.
Although the path was frightening and terrifying, we had no choice, our parents were calling us telling us to get home straight away. So we made our way down 'Black Path' as we called it. Just 2 of us walking down it.
We were silent the whole time, it was the scariest and freakiest experience of our entire lives, as we got about 5 minutes into the journey, we started to hear noises, we couldn't identify what the strange sounds were. We kept checking behind to see if we could spot someone, but no-one was there.
I had the torch on my phone turned on so that the path ahead was lit, we didn't think that anyone had used the pathway for a while because I noticed that there no footprints infront of us.
As we got deeper into the tree filled area, the noises got louder and more clear, we were really starting to freak out at this point, Tom had tunred on his flashlight on his phone and looked behind himself, he tapped me on te shoulder and quietly whispered, with fear in his breath, "A-Adam... The path..." I turned around and looked, then my body froze and heart emptied as my soul left my body.
We couldn't believe what we had seen...
