Universal Perspective

My family and I watched as on the television as the president of Panem stood on the balcony overlooking the circle of the Capitol.

A small boy bears a wooden box with intricate designs. He brings it up to the intimidating man and the president plucks the scroll from inside of it.

I could barely watch. It's bad enough the Hunger Games happen every year but the risks seem to always be higher during a quell.

The president cleared his throat. "On this year of the Hunger Games, we mark the 100th anniversary of the Dark Days. So in tribute to those who perished in rebellion and uprising many years ago, we shall keep the original amount of tributes. However, there shall be four victors. This year, the citizens of the Capitol shall be in control of what terrors await the tributes inside of the arena."

With that, the president places the scroll back in the box and walks back inside of the building he came from.

A nation of petrified districts now in turmoil. I understand why there are four victors. They made it seem as if these games will be kinder when in reality, they'll be much, much worse.
