Prologue

It was a cold wintery night. My mother went out to hunt, so we had to stay at the den by ourselves. I have five other sisters, the sad thing is I'm the only boy in my family.

The good thing about being the only boy, is that my mother kind of favorites me. I don't tug on her at feeding time, and I am very quiet unlike my sisters'.

I always help my mother out, and for that she shows me some of her hunting skills. My father would have taught me, but he left a day after my mother gave birth to us.

Mother told me that he stood a head taller than her. She says I am a lot like him. Handsome and Noble. Are the words she used to describe us alike.

When I am old enough I can leave this den and follow in my father's footprints. Oh yeah I forgot to say, my father was a police dog. I got his looks. He is a German shepherd.

My mother never gave me a name. I believe when you are ready for a name, it will come to you. Is what my mother told me.

I have thought of a lot of names, but none never stood out. I guess my mom meant it. She is really wise and I love her for that.

"My son will you please come out here with me?" Mother called.

"Yes mama I will be out there."

I walked out to see mother cornered by a grizzly bear

"My son I want you to know that I love you and your sisters with all my heart. Please take care of them until they are old enough to leave. When you are old enough to leave find out your true name, okay my son? I love you and we will meet up again one day." I saw a tear roll down her cheek.

"N-no mother you are not g-going to d-die." I started crying.

"Take care of your family my son, I love you." The bear raised its paw and swung. I heard a yelp and the next thing I knew I saw darkness.
