Ebony Staggard stood silently at the edge of the water. The wind blew directly in her face, causing her to squint and forming lines in her smooth, pale complexion. Her hands were in the pocket of her favourite hoodie. Her feet hadn't moved in an hour.
She was a thinker, a problem solver. Naturally, maths was her favourite class at the secondary school she attended. Her teachers loved her opinions and were fascinated by the wonders of her mind. Her friends, too, loved her. She was a vivid, bubbly spirit whose smile could revive a life.
Up until a month ago this would have reigned true, but the death of her older brother Elliot rattled her cage. He was 20, 4 years older than herself. It was the usual story; he had gone out to a bar with his mates and driving was the only way their careless minds thought to get home. Elliot was driving with his friend Oliver in the passenger; both were killed on impact. The two in the back, Levi and Caleb, survived with a few broken bones.
Every weekend since that night, Ebony had been walking the short distance from her home to the beach. Elliot was her only sibling. The two constantly bickered like siblings do, never voicing their love for each other and neglecting just how deep it was. The beach was where she went to be with him, to try and make up for all the faults she had made..and for being the reason he went to the bar that night at all.
