1 - The Ace

Episode 1 - The Ace

The school bell rang, everyone was scattering away from their classes; everyone was excited to go on home and do whatever. Play some gamecrab, go to the teen center, maybe even touch themselves. But not me, nope. I got something else planned for today! Today was going to be the last game of this season, before the local tournament. My team and I desperately need to get an extra W today if we want to clench onto the 3rd spot.

We're so close to going down to 4th, and allowing JohnBurg to take 3rd. We had 19 wins and 11 losses this season. I went over to the locker room and quickly got changed. I changed out of my jeans, into my gray baseball pants, and out of my black shirt, into my jersey. I quickly untied my shoes and replaced them with my baseball cleats. I finished up and grabbed my pitching glove, and rushed out to the field across the street.

"Shortstop!" I heard from the entrance to the field. I watched as the coach threw a ball in the air and hit it over to John. He jumped up to catch it, and it plopped down to the clay. He picked it up and threw it to Mauro at first base as quickly as he could. "Come on! You gotta get those!" The coach snapped. I looked at John adjust his YC team cap and the coach hit him another ball.

John went for it and caught it. "There you go!" The coach said while John threw it to Mauro. "Tui, you're late!"

"I know! I'm sorry, I just had to get changed and everything, plus my teacher was being an ass and kept the class in..." I told him, he shook his head and threw me a second basemen glove. "Go second, I want you to work on another position other than pitching." I nodded and went to second base, taking Nick's spot.

We were going to rotate. "Right out!" I heard the BANG of the bat as the ball flew over to right outfield, I looked over my shoulder to right outfield and there she was; Crystal. She caught the ball and threw I prepared myself for a cut, she threw it to me and I threw it to John on second. "Gotta pay attention, Denz!" The coach called out. I tipped my hat and kept myself on my toes.

"Bring it in!"

After the other team finally got to their dugout after practicing, the game was finally back on. "Batting line up for today..." the coach said while writing on a paper. "Batting 1st, Third base, Isaac... batting 2nd, center outfield, carlos... batting 3rd, pitcher, Tui... batting 4th, First base, Mauro... batting 5th, left outfield, Kat... Batting 6th, Shortstop, John... batting 7th, Catcher, Jordan... Batting 8th, Right outfield, Angous... bottom of the order, Second base, James."

I was batting 3rd, I was ready to hit a homerun on Ocean View! "Get out there and show them how it's done." The coach said, we all nodded and the starters went out to the field. I watched Jordan behind the plate, and nodded as I went to the mound. As I went to the rubber, the batter went up to the box. I took a deep breath, and muttered to myself. "Let's give them hell..."

It was the top of the 6th, it was 1-5, one out, we were trailing by 4... I stepped up to the plate and looked at who was on base. Crystal was on 3rd, and Carlos was on 1st. I looked at the pitcher and I got into my position and waited for the pitch. I watched as he threw the ball, I quickly read it, and was about ready to swing until I pulled it back. "Ball!"

The pitch was a deadly slider, his slider broke heavily. I took a deep breath as I looked back at my team, they were all on the edge of their seat, I knew what I had to do. When the pitch was thrown, I didn't react to it. "Strike!" I shook it off and took another deep breath. "Easy there, come on, wait for your pitch." The coach told me from first base. I nodded and got back to position.
