Rodrick looked very attractive; his hair was spiked out and held in place with what looked like gel. His torso was covered by a plain white button up shirt and over that, a black blazer. He wore a black tie around his neck and his black dress pants were held up by a black leather belt, all with a pair of black leather shoes.
Rodrick looked almost starstruck once he laid eyes on me, casting his gaze from my hair down to my shoes. He smiled at me and bowed mockingly, outstretching his hand for me to take. "Oh my, what a gentleman," I gushed sarcastically, placing my freshly french manicured hand in his, feeling his soft skin on mine.
As we interlocked fingers and made our way to his van, he kept looking over at me. I looked up at him and questioned him, "Why do you keep looking at me?"
"I'm sorry," he said, refusing to take his eyes off me, "You just look...really beautiful tonight."
I blushed at his words and smiled bashfully up at him. Never had a boy called me beautiful and sounded so sincere. "Thank you. You look pretty handsome yourself."
Rodrick smiled back and dipped his head down in thanks. We both got in the van and drove towards the venue of our prom. We pulled up and were about to walk in, when Jay and Sasha stepped in front of us. They both looked great in their matching navy blue dress for Sasha and tie for Jay.
Before Jay could make any kind of snarky remark about us, I said to them calmly, "You two look good."
They were both frozen, equally surprised of the words that just left my mouth. They looked at each other and cleared their throats. "Great," I said, grasping Rodrick's hand in mine. "Now if you'll excuse us, we have a prom to go to." We both then side stepped past them, and entered the room.
Balloons crowded the hall and teenagers had already flooded the main dance floor. There was a snacks table to the far right of the room and a set of bleachers to the far left for those who wanted to sit and take a break.
Once I saw Red and Ben enter, I looked over at Rodrick. "Wanna dance?"
Rodrick looked around him and shrugged, letting me drag him towards the middle of the floor. We both bounced along to the bopping music, laughing at how much fun we were having at what we thought would be a crappy prom.
After 10 or so minutes of dancing, Rodrick and I went to grab a drink from the snack table before making our way over to the bleachers and taking a seat to catch our breath. I looked up, watching as Rodrick took a sip of his drink and examined all the dressed up dancing teens. Not long after we sat down, Red and Ben joined us with drinks in their hands as well.
As the boppy music faded out, 'Can't Help Falling in Love' by Elvis Presley came on. All the couples rushed out to the middle of the floor and started to slow dance with each other. I was prepared to sit on the bleachers and watch the couples dance, until Rodrick stood up from next to me. I looked up at him, confused as he bowed down slightly and held his hand out like he did back at Red's house before we left. He looked up and into my eyes, "M'lady?"
I rolled my eyes and smirked as I took his hand and stood up, letting him lead us out to where all the other couples were dancing. He put his right hand out for me to hold and I lightly took a hold of it with my left. I latched my right hand onto his shoulder as he placed his left hand delicately on the small of my back, shivering slightly at his cold fingers on my bare skin. Slowly, we started swaying together in rhythm. We were locked in each other's gazes as the music continued.
As if someone flicked a switch, everything disappeared. It just felt like it was me, Rodrick, and the music. We kept our gazes locked on each other and I was suddenly aware of how we'd gotten here. Who would have thought that the douchey drummer across the street would be my best friend and secret crush and that we'd be slow dancing together at prom?
