It had been a few weeks since Jungkook and Seokjin had helped Hoseok, Jimin, and I come to our senses and things were looking up for everyone. Yoongi hadn't even said anything about fire, Seokjin was getting more comfortable in social situations, I hadn't had an episode in weeks, Jungkook was able to separate from Yoongi without having a panic attack, Jimin had gained a pound, Hoseok hadn't been having episodes, and Namjoon had been able to fall asleep at a fairly reasonable hour every night for 5 days straight.
Of course though, there was always a relapse.
No one expected it to be as bad as it was.
It wasn't sudden, it was gradual. It started with Jungkook. The youngest boy became more closed off than usual and clung to Yoongi like his life depended on it. This somehow triggered Jimin. He began to disappear right before meals to somewhere no one could find him. He initially only ate one full meal a day but soon began to eat a few bites of his food before disappearing until he stopped going to meals all together. The rest of us looked for him every time but never found him.
Worrying about Jimin and Jungkook caused Namjoon's insomnia to act up. He began getting little to no sleep at night. It got to the point where he was passing out in the middle of everything–one time Seokjin had to stop his face from falling into a bowl of hot soup. Yoongi was next. His depression was eating at him more than usual but we thought that was as bad as it would get. At one point he stole a lighter from a nurse's jacket and lit a curtain on fire. Luckily, a doctor caught the smell of smoke as he walked passed and was able to put it out before it spread. The lighter was confiscated by said doctor.
Hoseok soon fell into one of his manic episodes which were always followed by an episode of depression. When he became depressed, he wouldn't leave his bed unless he had to use the bathroom. I brought him food and fed him and Jimin and I cuddled him while he slept.
I guess we should have seen it coming, with how bad everyone was getting. But we didn't. It had started off a normal Tuesday. We ate breakfast–not including Jimin or Hoseok–and when we were don't was when the trouble started. Yoongi had disappeared after we had thrown our garbage away and we were about to go look for him when a nurse screamed. We ran in the direction of the noise, curious, to find a horrific sight. In the middle a the hallway stood Yoongi, clothes engulfed in flames, a nurse (presumably the one that screamed) was using a fire extinguisher on him. Soon, many other staff members and patients were flooding the space, gasps echoing throughout the room. A doctor came up with another fire extinguisher while a couple of nurses ran to the infirmary to get a stretcher to put Yoongi on. Soon, the fire was put out and Yoongi was being rushed to the infirmary to be taken care of.
Jungkook was panicking and seeing this, Seokjin took the initiative and brought the boy into his arms.
"Shh, it's okay, honey. Yoongi will be just fine." Seokjin assured softly.
Eventually, Jungkook was lulled to sleep by Seokjin's soft voice and soothing words. However, just when we thought that was it, Hoseok's voice yelled down the hall.
"Guys! Guys! Something's wrong with Jimin!" He cried, running towards us, Jimin's thin frame in his arms. I rushed up to him. "What happened?" I asked frantically, my eyes searching Jimin's body for any physical damage.
"He walked in the room and said he felt dizzy. He came and laid down me but got up to go to the bathroom and he was having trouble walking and then he fainted. I don't know what happened!" Hoseok exclaimed. "He's really, really light guys."
"It's okay, Hoseok. Let's take him to the infirmary. They'll be able to help him." Namjoon stepped in. Hoseok nodded, sniffling, obviously close to tears.
We all headed in the direction that Yoongi was carried in, Seokjin carrying Jungkook on his hip. When we got there, we were met with a nurse with her hair in a high pony tail. She smiled at us.
"Hello, what brings you here?" She asked, not able to see Jimin. Hoseok moved forward and the nurse's eyes widened. "Bring him this way." She said, leading us down a hall and into a room with a hospital bed. "Lay him there. Now tell me what happened." She instructed.
Hoseok relayed the story to her and she nodded, frowning. "I'll page a doctor to come look him over but I'm going to have ask you step out for a moment. When the doctor is done you can come back in." She stated.
"Thank you." Hoseok said softly.
We exited the room and a doctor entered. Soon, we were allowed back in the room. Hoseok and I sad on both sides of the bed, holding Jimin's frail hands. Seokjin and Namjoon sat in two chairs at the foot of the bed, Jungkook was asleep in Seokjin's lap. The doctor came back after about 45 minutes with a clipboard.
"Hi, guys. I'll tell you what's going on while I give your friend an IV." He introduced. I moved out of his way so he could hook Jimin up to the IV that had somehow made its way into the room. "First of all, you should all know Jimin is only 97 lbs. and that is a dangerously low weight for him to be at. The reason he passed out was because he is severely malnourished. That's what this IV will fix. It will give him enough nutrients to get him back up and running. However, there was something else we found. Were any of you aware that Jimin is anemic?" The doctor said.
Everyone shook their heads 'no' except Hoseok. We all looked at him. "I found out when he first got here. His parents asked me to make sure he took his iron pill every morning with breakfast." Hoseok explained. "Eventually he did it without me reminding him."
"But he's been skipping breakfast for the past week." I said.
"That explains why his iron levels are so low." The doctor said. "His IV will help him get better. He'll wake up soon and if you'd like to stay with him I'll let your counsellors know what's going on and they'll give you a break today."
"That'd be great. Thank you." Hoseok smiled.
"No problem. Is there anything else I can do for you?" The doctor asked,
"Um, a-actually c-c-can I as-ask abou-about an-an-another pat-patient?" Seokjin questioned quietly. The doctor nodded and smiled encouragingly. "H-how is-s M-Min Y-Yoo-Yoongi?" Seokjin inquired.
"I believe he's still being treated but I was just in his room and he seemed to be okay. They sedated him and have him on heavy pain medication so he can't feel anything. I think he'll be ready for visitors by tomorrow. His burns didn't look too bad." The doctor explained.
"Th-tha-thanks." Seokjin whispered.
"No problem. If that's all, I'll be going now." The doctor smiled before leaving.
It was silent. I sighed and looked at Jimin's sleeping face. How did we end up here? I asked myself.
