Okay guys this is something that I came up with not long ago, it's a very short story, only one chapter long and If im honest not the best of stories, but I hope you all enjoy reading it anyway.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I take one more shaky step and I’m at the top of the ladder, a step closer to where I long to be. I walk across the roof top, the slight breeze blowing my hair around my face. Reaching up I take a bit of my blow out hair from my face and atempt to put my hair back into place.
I carry on walking across the roof top until I am at the very edge, the end of my shoes no longer on the roof, only my heels keeping me from falling. I step back slightly and turn around so that my back was facing the edge and I was looking at the rest of the roof and the towering buildings beind it. I didn't want to watch as I got closer to where I needed to be, I couldn't bear it, but I knew that it was what had to be done. This was for the best, not just for me, but for everyone. Taking another step back, I close my eyes and lean back, my balance failing me as I feel my feet lose touch of the roof. This was it I thought to myself. Soon I will be free.
12 hours earlier
“Hey, Millie, you ready to leave for school?” My sister, Amelia, yells to me from the hall way, her bag on her shoulder and waving her car keys at me as I make my way out of the kitcen and to her side.
We got out the front door and walk over to her shiney new convertable and both climb in, her in the drivers seet and me on the passengers side. She starts the engine and I turn on the radio, the music blaring out, as we pull out of the drive way and make our way to the school grounds.
In a split second, that life as I knew it changed as a lorry turned from around the corner and before Amelia could stop the car, I could feel my body flipping and spinning as the car was thrown of off the road. My body was numb, my eyes getting heavier by the second as I felt my body losing feeling, losing life. But before I lost conciouness, one image was burnt into my brain that I could never forget. My sisters limp, dead body, laying beside me.
6 hours later
Beep. Beep. Beep. I wake up to the sound of what I had originally believed was my alarm clock and open my eyes to find myself laying in a bed. But it wasn’t the bed that I knew and loved, no, this one was cold, lonely ... Dead. The machines showing me that what I had just happened to me was not a dream as I had hoped, but had actually just happened.
I desperately searched everywhere hoping that there was some possibility that my sister was still with me and about to come from around the corner and hold me tightly. Tell me that everything was okay and that everything would go back to how it was before. But I knew that that would never happen, it was too late for that now. I was now alone.
Amelia was the only family that I had left after the night of the burglary when my parents both died. I was only 12. They gave up their lives to save the two of us and from that point we took care of each other. We were closer than most sisters were. She was like a best friend and a sister all wrapped up in one. I loved her so much and from the day of the fire I pledged that if anything happened to her to make her lose her life, I would take my own life in hopes that I would be reunited with her and our parents once more.
At that moment the doctor came in to tell me that I was alright and that I was lucky to come out of the car crash with just a couple of cuts and bruises. After that he told me that I was free to leave the hospital before turning and leaving the room.
Once I step through my front door, I am filled with such sorrow that I just collapse inside the door and lay there. The salty water of my tears slowly making its way down my face, until there are no more tears left to fall.
Standing up I look around me, the house that I had lived in all my life and that had once been so cheerful, so full of love and life had now been replaced by once of distance, darkness and sorrow.
I make my way into Amelia’s room and look around, taking in every inch of it hoping to remember it all for when I am gone.
After I am finished looking at Amelia’s room I walk over to my parent’s room, it was exactly how they left it four years ago. After they passed away, Amelia and I couldn’t bring ourselves to change one part of it, hoping that if we left it, the memory of them would last longer.
Finally I make my way into my room, grabbing a pen and paper and start writing.
To whoever finds this,
I’m so sorry, I can’t go on anymore. They’re all gone now, all dead. I’m so lonely without them all. I miss them so much. Tonight all wrongs will be corrected and I will be gone. If you are reading this though it probably means that you have already found my body. But if not, I will be round back. I will be in a better place tonight so don’t worry. Maybe I’ll even find my family there.
I’m truly am sorry, but I have to do this.
Millie x
Once I am finished writing the note I seal it in an envelope and lay it on my bed, where someone would easily find it someday. I then make my way out of my room and shut the door behind me before making my way out of the building and around to the fire escape.
I take one more step and I’m at the top of the ladder, a step closer to where I long to be. I walk across the roof top, the slight breeze blowing my hair around my face. Reaching up I take a bit of my blow out hair from my face and atempt to put my hair back into place.
I carry on walking across the roof op until I am at the very edge, the end of my shoes no longer on the roof, only my heels keeping me from falling. I step back slightly and turn around so that my back was facing the edge and I was looking at the rest of the roof and the towering buildings beind it. Taking another step back, I close my eyes and lean back, my balance failing me as I feel my feet lose touch of the roof. This was it I thought to myself. Soon I will be free.
With that I held my eyes closed tight as my body fell through the air. I was free now, no longer a prisenor of life.
Finally the beginning of freedom. Finally the end of life.
