Rejuvenation

For this project in creative writing we were supposed to take a word that you can't touch (like a feeling or emotion) and use the five sense to describe it. It's called sensory writing. I chose rejuvenation and this is what I wrote.

Wind carried the scent of salt water

cascading above an endless stretch of ocean.

She smelled of the most soothing

elements of Earth; Aloe,

lavender, even tangy citrus.

Her presence sent our noses

on a trek through a tropical forest

in Brazil somewhere.

When she came around, we

were drawn to her in waves.

Watching her was like watching

a plant being given a drop of water

after a long, humid summer.

She made everything seem crystal

clear and diaphanous.

She was a sigh of relief after

the newborn baby stopped crying.

The sound of nature; trees

brushing against one another

in the breeze.

If we dared touch her, she’d

have felt like a fluffy, soft cloud

way beyond our reach.

She was someone we all

secretly craved a taste of;

a peppermint that shot

open our nostrils and

sensitized our senses.

She was rejuvenation.
