"Eva, are you coming to Sarah's house tonight?" Alexa, my best friend asks me as we walk out of our English class.
"No, I have to stay home and watch the kids." I sigh, I always have to stay home while all my friends go out and have fun. "I really wish I could though."
"I wish you could too, everyone's talking about how it's going to be the party of the year. Adrian's going to be there." She says with a smile.
"He is?" I ask in disbelief. Adrian's the hottest guy in school, he's also in the twelfth grade and would never, on a regular basis, attend a tenth graders party.
"Yeah, he's bringing some friends too." She sighs again, like a lovesick puppy.
"Well, I gotta get to math class, see you at lunch." I smile at her and walk towards my math class. I honestly don't give a shit about that boy. He and his friends treat girls like trash, they have no respect, yet all the girls are head over heels for them.
The intercom speakers make a long screeching noise before a voice starts speaking.
"All classes are dismissed. Get home and your parents will explain everything. Please do not panic." The principle says in a monotone voice.
What was that all about? You can't just say something like that and then simply stop talking.
I look around and see everyone in the hallway has the same confused look on their face as me.
Someone down the hall shouts; "Let's go party!" But everyone else remains silent.
Someone's phone rings and I turn around to find Alexa answering her phone.
"Mom, is everything ok?" She says quietly, well aware of the fact that everyone is staring at her. I walk towards her, hugging my binder to my chest.
"What happened to dad? I can't hear you." There's a voice on the other line as a tear rolls down her cheek. She drops the phone and stares at nothing, a tear falling to the floor.
"What happened?" I ask.
She looks at me with scared and confused eyes. "My dad's dead."
I hug her tightly as she sobs into my shoulder.
"We have to go home." She tells me. "Something's happening, something serious." She says breaking out of our hug to look me in the eye.
I nod. What does she mean? What's happening?
We make our way out of the building and onto the sidewalk. The streets are mostly empty around the residential area where I drop Alexa off at her house.
"Are you sure you don't want to come with me?" I ask, whatever's going on, she shouldn't be alone.
"Yeah, I'll be fine. You need to go home." She still seems in shock.
I debate whether I should leave her or not, but she's right, I need to get home.
"Lock your door, ok?" I tell her. "I'll stop by tomorrow." I give her one last hug before beginning the walk to my house.
When I get to the main street in our town, I'm met with complete Chaos. There's cars honking their horns continuously at the traffic that is completely at a stand still. People are getting out of their cars and running towards the hospital with people in their arms, others are getting out of their cars to yell at the people in front of them. A store alarm goes off and I spot a group of teenagers running out of a gas station with full backpacks.
