I wake up early in the morning to make my family breakfast.

Walking slowly to not step on the cracks on the messed up wooden floor.

As I washed the pans and plates before my dad wakes up.

I crack the eggs before my sister startles me.
"So-" Hope says before I interrupt her.

"Holy crap, you scared the mess out of me!" I say having my hand to my chest.

"Oh You thought I was Dad?" Hope asked looking behind her.

"No, I thought you were a unicorn dancing around the house." Maya says rolling her eyes and turning back to washing the dishes.

"Why isn't Dylan up yet? Dad is gonna kill him." Hope said, sitting on the couch.

Dylan was 12 years old and Hope was 17.
I am the middle child at 15 years old.

"Wake him up before Dad wake-" I said while the plate dropped on the floor causing a loud noise and break.

I try to clean it up before i'm interrupted by my dad walking down stairs.

"What the hell, Maya! You ruin everything don't you?" Shawn yelled.

I look down not looking at Shawn.

"I said something, what are you death?"

Smack!

The sound of Shawn slapping me across the face for not looking at him.

"Where is Dylan!" Shawn yells, he doesn't look worried he just looks like he wants someone to take his anger on.

"I think he is still sleeping." Hope says

"Get the fuck up, Hope. You have school to go to."

He walks back up the stairs angry.

I hold my red cheek in pain.

"Maya, are you oka-" Hope says trying to hold her tears back.

"I'm fine, just get ready for school." I say worried for her.

I would rather myself get hurt than my siblings. No matter how much his abuse hurts.

I open my locker with a bruise on my cheek.

"What the fuck happened to you?" Farkle said coming up to my locker.

I say feeling my cheek, "Nothing, Dylan was playing around with me and pushed me the ground."

"Oh okay." Farkle says looking at me not looking very convinced.
