Prologue

The silhouette of a child floated in the white formless void. A familiar voice called out from somewhere in the void, echoing off the unseen boundaries. At first the voice was faint. The distant echoes grew closer. The young silhouette shook with a start as the questioning voice began to fill the air.

"Are you a boy or a girl," the voice asked the floating humanoid form. A sound crept out of the form. First mumbles, then words. The voice asked again of the form, "Are you a boy or a girl?"

"B-b-boy. I'm a boy."

The humanoid void came into view. The shadows lifting from around his young face. He couldn't be much older than ten. His face still held the glow of youth. A face that had not seen the harshness of the world yet

"What is your name," the distant voice echoed again. The echoes were beginning to reverberate off unseen walls, closer than the young boy had expected from the ivory nothing around him.

"My name is Red."

As the sound of his name left his lips, a small red hat, a panel white as the space around him, formed upon the crown of his head. A matching jacket wrapped around him. What once was the black form of his shadowed body, fluttered into a shirt and pants. Sneakers adorned his feet.

Red opened his eyes, seeing the white room for the first time. His feet landed on some unseen floor. Another shapeless humanoid form flickered into his view. Red shuttered back a step, afraid at first until the voice spoke, "This is your rival. What is his name?" A face formed on the rival. Young like Red's face, but less innocent. A slight cowl of deception crept on to his brow. His eyes opened, staring into Red. "Blue." Red was looking into eyes the color of water. But behind them was a torrent. Red had not meant to answer the mysterious voice, but the echoes of the name began to rumble around Red. The boy in front of him was instantly clothed in a button-up shirt, the buttons misaligned and the shirt hung loose from his side. His hair was messy and swept in every direction.

Red stood there, watching this boy come into form. As the last details came into view, the boy known only as Blue flickered away and then a rumbling. The voices again. Not just the mysterious voice of the unseen man. A first only a few, building louder and louder until the sound of a ravenous crowd shouted at him from every corner of the unshaped room around him. Red shut his eyes tight, covering his ears. Trying to block out the voices.

And then silence.

The Journey Begins

Red shot up out bed. A loud ringing pierced his ears. He shook his head a few times, trying to drain some invisible source of sound from his ears. The ringing faded slightly as Red rubbed the sleep from his eyes and looked around. The sunlight was just peeking into his loft bedroom adorned with all the features of young boy's room. Posters of four adults surrounded by teams of Pokémon. Each of the four had their own specialty and looked as fearsome as their team around them. Red had grown up with dreams of meeting them one day. Maybe even in a Pokémon battle on the famous Victory Road.
