Draco's POV:
His mind still contemplates whether what he just heard was a joke. He can't be what his parents told him he was. He had to put an end to that rubbish.
"Mother, Father—"
"You are not imagining this conversation, Draco. We speak only the truth." His father, Lucius Malfoy, cut him off softly. Ever since the war ended, his father has become more like the father he knew as a child.
"We know it won't be easy to take in, sweetheart. We couldn't tell you about it in fear of what the Dark Lord might do. We didn't want this heritage to be used to his advantage."
His old self would have shouted despicable words and displayed poor manners even before his mother. But after the war and the shock of what he knew about himself, he could only stare at his parents and be silent.
He had a job to do, and he needed to do it fast. He has little time.
"Has the Greengrass girl ever sparked an interest in you? Or perhaps Parkinson? One of them could be your mate." Draco's father said, trying to be helpful.
"Or perhaps a classmate of yours from another house? The possibilities are endless." Narcissa added. Draco just shook his head. For all he knows, even Hermione Granger can be the one. It just made his skin crawl. Astoria Greengrass, he can tolerate. The girl is sweet and pretty. Pansy Parkinson is a dear friend who is very much hooked up with his best friend, Blaise Zabini. The girl could be anyone from another house.
Whoever she is, he needs to see her and, if possible, touch her. So he can feel that 'pull' his parents told him about. And the scent. He'll know she's near because she will have a prominent smell. Something that will attract him like crazy.
He stood up and told his parents he'd be out awhile. He needed some time for himself. He needed to take in that he was a veela, and if Draco didn't find his mate before his birthday, he'll wither away and die.
Michelle's POV:
She never thought she'd live to see the day her family's bookstore in Muggle London would still be managed by her family. They never thought they would even survive the war. Her family has sided with Harry Potter. They have been relieved that The Boy Who Lived finally defeated the evil dark wizard that was Lord Voldemort.
It was her turn to look after their bookshop that day. The others were at Diagon Alley, repairing their main branch to its former glory.
New books had been delivered to their shop a few days ago, and she could not check them out yet.
"I'll take it from here, Miss. You can check the new books. I know you're dying to." Sarah, one of their employees, teased her as she stared longingly at the new books section.
She grinned knowingly at the kind woman and went to the section containing all the new books. She has been fascinated by books since she was five. Though she came from a family of purebloods, her family was more like the Weasleys. They are amazed by muggles. Thus, they have been branded as Blood Traitors.
The proud Draco Malfoy suddenly came to mind. He and Harry Potter are a year ahead of her. She had silently witnessed all their bantering through the years. Although the Slytherin Prince is an arrogant git, something about him attracts her. He is a very handsome blonde with silver-grey eyes, but there is more to it than her eyes can see.
She shook her head and read the back cover of the books in the new books section.
Draco's POV:
He didn't have any particular place in mind. He just needed to get away from the Manor and be alone. Draco found himself in Muggle London. With no specific direction, he started strolling the streets and wandered.
When he was a few steps away from a bookstore, he was hit with what felt like a punch to his chest and heart. He frantically looked behind the glass walls, searching for someone to pull him to her.
She is inside this bookstore, and she has to be! Draco's mind fought the restless beating of his heart.
Hurriedly, he entered the bookshop. A sweet scent of mixed flowers engulfed him. He was not aware of the muggle ladies eyeing him appreciatively. He only had his mind set on his feeling of smell and pull.
He followed where the pull and scent were stronger. His old self was dreading that his mate was a muggle girl, but he was too helpless to fight the overpowering feeling of his mate being just around the corner.
Draco's feet took him to a section where he found the most beautiful brunette he had ever seen. Michelle was too preoccupied with the books, but as he stepped closer, he felt her stiff and hit by the same feeling of being punched in the chest. Terrified by the bizarre feeling, she looked at his side, and her striking blue eyes arrested him.
Without thinking, Draco reached for Michelle's hand. At the slightest touch, his fear of never finding that one special girl disappeared. He had found his mate. And he will do everything to make her fall in love with him.
"D-Draco Malfoy? What on earth are you doing?" Her sweet, melodious voice came to his conscious state of mind. She knew him. He sighed in relief that his mate was at least a muggle-born witch.
"Thank Merlin, I finally found you."
"What are you talking about?" Confusion was etched on her beautiful features. How come he never saw her before? She was studying at Hogwarts.
Draco looked around and talked in a calm voice.
"You are a witch, aren't you? You go to Hogwarts too?"
"Yes," Michelle answered suspiciously. She might be thinking he's gone completely bonkers.
"You're probably a year younger, as I would know you if we were in the same year."
"Yes, I'm in Ginny Weasley's year." He could tell she was trying her hardest not to shout at him as he was a deatheater, well, former deatheater, and he was not making any sense.
"What's your name, love?" Both of them were surprised by his use of endearment. Her features visibly softened.
"Michelle Gomez. Ravenclaw."
"Well, Michelle Gomez, this will shock you as it has to me. Just this morning, my parents told me that I am a Veela. I found my way to you because I felt the pull towards you, and your amazing flowery scent guided me."
The shock was an understatement for what Michelle felt.
"Wait, so if you're a Veela, I'm your..."
"Mate."
