*OLIVIA*

I never stopped to think about the consequences; all I knew was Beth was in danger, and I had to save her.

It was a pretty basic day, to start. Clear blue skies, the sound of children's laughter floating on the breeze to my open window. I sat at my desk, eraser tip between my teeth, and looked outside. I could see my little sister riding her bike with her friends, long blonde hair flowing behind her under her helmet. I smiled, inspiration striking, and got back to work.

My days were usually spent like this, window open and pencil to the paper. While my sister enjoyed the outdoors, I was more than happy to spend hours at my desk letting my creativity flow. I guess you could say I was more of a bookworm than a girl scout.

My project for the day sat on my desk in front of me, but for some reason I couldn't focus on the rough sketch I had started the night before. I glanced outside again, a cold chill running the length of my spine. My eyes searched for her pink barbie helmet, but it was nowhere to be found. My heart jumped to my throat, and I dropped my pencil to the floor.

"MOM!" I shouted as I ran down the stairs, hoping my suspicions were wrong. This was my fault- I promised mom I could watch her from my window, that she would be fine. But I looked away one too many times and she disappeared. Just like Jenny...

Jenny was the little girl down the street. About 9 years old, blonde hair and brown eyes, she looked a lot like my little sister. She disappeared about two weeks ago, on a day a lot like today, and no one has heard from her since. My sister was about to be 9 in a few days...

Fear gripped my heart as I ran outside, desperately calling out for my little sister. My feet pounded the pavement, carrying me to the end of my street before turning around and running to the other end. And there, on the corner, sat her bike. Thrown on its side, I could hear the steady whir of the wheels, still spinning.

In that moment, fear was replaced by adrenaline, and I made a choice that would change my life forever.

I went after her.
