When we arrived at the camp, the party was almost in complete full-swing. Drums rhythmically played all around us, the large bond fire in the center crackled and sparked as yellow smoke pillared from the top. Indians danced to beat, singing along with the many musicians. The kids cheered and scattered around, dancing with everyone else. I turned my head, spotting a group of fairies in the distance and pointed over to them to show Delilah.

“Hey look Deedee, some fairies.” I said, nodding to them. She grinned seeing them easily and hovered up by my cheek.

They look like Sun-Holders. I think I recognize a few of them. No wonder they're here, it's the Golden Sun Equinox, right? I'm going to go over there, you won't mind will you?” she asked, glancing at her friends. I shook my head and smiled.

“No! Go on, have fun you crazy kid, don't talk to strangers unless they have candy and don't kiss too many boys or else I'll have to smash their faces in” she laughed and nodded, flying over to them and I watched her hug one of the fairies. A few female Indians about my age came over to me, asking if I wanted to dance and I accepted, jumping around the fire with them. It was just a group dance, but the song quickly changed into a partners dance where there was specific steps, which we all knew by heart.

One of the girls I was dancing with walked up to me and asked if I wanted to partner. She had dark blue feathers weaved into a long braid that matched Delilah's, her brown eyes sparkling from the fire's flashing light. I nodded eagerly, and she smiled, reveling a row of perfect white teeth as she blushed under my gaze.

I continued the rest of the night like this, dancing and laughing, not noticing anything out of the ordinary until the band took a small break. I sighed and walked over to lean against a tree, a bead of sweat dripping down my neck. I gazed around, seeing all the other children stuffing their faces from the endless buffet the Indians prepared.

Mom and Dad were over in the distance in a quiet corner, still circling in a slow swaying motion, her head rested lovingly on his shoulder. They almost always did this if we visited the Indians, no matter if the music was upbeat, slow, or no music at all like right now. Continuously swaying in motion, eyes closed, occasionally you'd see them whisper something or laugh, but that was it.

And though I'd never admit it, I hoped that one day I'd have my own love to sway to silent music with.

I looked around, searching for Amanda, who was sitting by herself on a log, staring into the forest. Walking over to where she sat, I placed myself beside her. She jumped at my sudden appearance, but quickly turned her nose in the air.

“Amanda?” I asked, confused at her attitude. She said nothing, her head turned away from me. I nudged her shoulder with mine, but she just scooted away from me.

“What's wrong?” I asked obliviously. She just huffed and looked,or rather, glared at me. I felt my eyes widen.

“Nothing.” she said in the tone I've heard Mom use so many times before when she was upset with Dad.

Uh oh.

I racked my brain for anything I might have done to upset her, but nothing came to mind.

“I know somethings wrong, but I don't know what I did wrong.” I said gently, my fingers about to brush a strand of hair from her face, but she flinched back in disgust. Pain overwhelmed me as I pulled my hand away. She stood up abruptly her eyes narrowing into a cold glare.
